I was always pro choice, but after having my baby I don’t think that abortion should be practiced except in extreme circumstances which do not include a irresponsible woman getting pregnant. Before deciding whether it is right or wrong take a look here http://www.thornthreads.homestead.com/abortion.html Babies are precious and should be cherished, not killed.
It is better to give the baby up for adoption. Who knows you might be killing the person who in the future could wipe out AIDS, Cancer or other dangerous deceases.
If people are not better than bugs or cows why do we than take it into our hands to decide who lives or dies? There are no animals out there that kill their own just so that they do not live. They might kill them out of hunger, protection of their rank, and survivor of the fittest. Not because they were irresponsible when it came to reproduction.
Are you a vegetarian? I am. You will not kill an animal but think that it is normal to kill a person.
I’m not trying to attack you, but you mother had you. Would you rather she did not? By aborting we choose who lives and who does not. I don’t think that it’s right if there are no medical reasons to abort (potential birth defects, danger to mother or a rape victim). I’m sure that once you have a baby and see how they develop each week, feel the baby kick and hear the heart beat you will change your mind.

The big question nobody agrees on is when is a baby alive inside our body.. Well when I was pregnant they never heard a heartbeat until I was about 3 months pregnant so to me any abortion done after that time frame for me would be wrong. Unless it is a certain case like incest victims/rape then it would still be wrong but the person having the abortion had no choice in the decision to make the baby, so they would be a victim. Now you have some women who use abortion like birth control and say they forget to take their pills well try an iud then it is good for 5-10 yrs depending on the type you get. I had my tubes tied and it failed and I had the baby because I figured if the egg and sperm could get through the hurdles of my tubes being tied then it was meant to be. I had an abortion once many many years ago and anyone who goes through that pain all the time is crazy.. I have 3 children and that pain hurts as well. Nobody ever forgets the pain mentally and physically from having children and from having an abortion it is something i think about all the time but it should be a personal choice. But once it has a heartbeat to me that is a living person and should only be done for violent crime victims or a medical reason and never as a form of birth control. childbirth for me was 12hours of pain and abortion was 5 minutes of H***. neither one feels good but it is a personal choice.

I have got to say, I totally agree with you. On several points. It is totally acceptable to compare a fetus or any other organism to a cow, a beetle, or a chicken! Life is life. Squashing it is ending it, and I would squash a beetle if it got in my way or tried to cause harm to me.
Truth is, America is loaded with all types of people and views. It seems that most religious folks are vocal, so it may appear that most Americans are pro-life/anti-abortion. In all, the stats are pretty even. Look, abortion will never be illegal. No matter how much religious freaks want it to be. The will of a person over a fetus will always be paramount! In today's society, abstinence is just not a reality, therefore, children will be made accidentally! This will never end. Also, throughout the history of this country and the world, men have kept women subservient by impregnating them (stay home and watch the kids). Oh, heaven forbid should a lowly woman actually not WANT to have children! Notice I said "heaven forbid?" Religion is the other reason that abortion will never be illegal. Not everyone believes in a Christian God.

ADDING MORE ABOUT THE COW THING. UM...DUDE DO YOU EAT BABIES? CUZ WE EAT COW. SO YES THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KILLING A HUMAN TO KILLING A COW.
I'm so against it because by the time you find out your preggo then the baby already has a heart beat. And i'm pretty sure that even in canada they consider the forceful stop of a heart by another human called murder. You say that you should be able to choose what happens to your body and YOUR BABY. yes the body that would be growing inside of you is called a baby. But who gave you the right to play GOD? Now this is just saying just to make a point here, i'm not threatening you or anything, so please don't think that. Just saying, if someone thinks that you are an inconvenience and that at that time they just can't have you in their life, due to what ever reason's, is it ok for them to kill you? Yes it is the same concept, no matter who thinks i'm on drugs, it is. And how dare you compare a BABY to a bug or a steak dinner. its ok, you can say it....say it with me now BABY. Why is it so easy for ppl to kill a baby because they are irresponsible? Do you know how many women in this world can't conceive? Why kill a child that other wise could be adopted by these wonderful women who can't have one of their own?

Let me give you the response from a "Bible Thumper" such as myself:
While the Constitution guarantees the right to life and liberty to every person, the Supereme Court decreed that an unborn child is not a person, and in 1973 abortion was legalized in the U.S. Since then, there have been millions upon millions of abortions and it is now the most frequently performed "operation" in the U.S. Just because something is legal, does that make it moral? While the Supreme Court doesn't see an unborn baby as a person, does God?
-"For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13).
-"And now says the Lord, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, to bring Jacob back to Him" (Isaiah 49:5).
-"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations" (Jeremiah 1:5).
-"For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine or liquor; and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, while yet in his mother's womb" (Luke 1:15).
-"But when He who had set me apart, even from my mother's womb, and called me through His grace" (Galatians 1:15).
The Bible makes it clear that an unborn baby is a person who is known by God. Besides the emotional, phychological, and physical complications that are so often connected with abortion, in the eyes of God it is the murder of an innocent human being. The truth is, at conception, that single celled person we like to call an "embryo" contains his or her full complement of DNA (everything the full grown adult will be).
I have to agree with the bumper sticker I saw not too long ago: "As a former fetus, I oppose abortion." What if your mother would have had an abortion? What if the mother of Noah, Abraham, or Moses would have had an abortion? What if the mother of Jesus would have had an abortion?

I am against the whole idea of abortion being illegal. Though I can say that anything over 10 wks is pushing it. But then there are those irresponsible ones that use it as a form of birth control. I had an abortion a lot of years ago and it did (and still does)bother me. I was scared of fetal problems and many other things that had plagued me at birth, some of which were hereditary. It had nothing to do with convenience, or irresponsibility. I would have kept the baby if I had not been so damned scared of losing it late in the pregnancy, or giving premature birth and losing him/her shortly after (I was almost 3 mo early and I had almost died). I could never do it again, but I am speaking only for myself. I do not agree with the idea that if a woman or child is raped, they should carry the baby because some circles say the baby has the right to life. But aren't babies supposed to be made from love? Not from violence. Not from humiliation. Some religions has excommunicated its members for abortions (one case being that of a raped 9 yr old. Her parents and doc claimed that her little body could not possibly handle it, and the church said that they had proof of otherwise and if the little girl died, it was "god's will"...parents took girl in for abortion, church kicked them out) The church preaches that God forgives...but brands people as blasphemers and heretics for not doing as they want.
You have a good question, hon. And I can only hope you can get some true feedback and not the holy roller, bible thumpers that seem to haunt this place called Yahoo Answers.

well, i guess some people are just bred that way, I know I was...my whole family is against abortion...and I am to an extent....If it is incest or rape, or like a 13 y/o getting pregnant then yes, i can understand abortion, and all that stuff...but if youre say..18-25 and you have an abortion, then i totally disagree with it, I'm only 18 years old and I'm almost 5 months pregnant... the way i feel about it, is if you do the deed to get pregnant, knowing the risks, then you should have to deal with it, reguardless if you want the child or not, i firmly believe that to take a life before it has a chance to live is wrong, if and only if there not rape, incest, or something of that sort....yet everyone has a different opinion...it's what makes the world go around....there are other options than to abort....one is abstinence the other is adoption....abstinence is the only way to know for sure youre not going to get pregnant...hell i was using condoms and taking a form of birth control, yet i got pregnant...and did i want the child at the point where i found out i was pregnant...no not really...but now, i do want it....different people, different happenings...that's that.

It is not just Americans that are against it. It is people that have a conscience and love human life. Abortion should not be used as a form of birth control just because someone doesn't want to go on the pill or their partner doesn't want to use condoms. Rape is different. That is a personal choice. I know a girl that was gang raped and she kept her baby. I also know someone that had a baby and lost custody to her ex-husband and by the time her son was 18 months she had already had 2 abortions because she didn't want to be tied down.

I believe that abortion is wrong because I feel it is MURDER!
Pregnancy is the beginning of a life that God allowed to be born. I do realize that rape that results in pregnancy is a very tragic, horrible thing and I would not wish that on my worst enemy, but I believe that everything happens for a reason, good or bad, and I believe that God has his own reasons for allowing a pregnancy. I mean, maybe one of the aborted fetuses were meant to grow up and invent a permanent cure for cancer, or to save the world somehow? Abortion to me is no different than what Scott Peterson did to his poor wife Lacy and their beautiful unborn child Conner.

What do you consider a fetus is?
It is ALWAYS A HUMAN BEING. Would you be willing to kill a baby?
Why should it be killed just so the parents (usually unwed) won't be inconvenienced or use abortion for birth control because they didn't use self control in a time of passion and lust?
Maybe more in America have read the Bible and know what God says about life and murder and we want to do whats right. We value life. And we care about the unborn.
