In a way yes. It can make us happy, but not truly happy. It doesn't bring us into a state of joy, it doesn't connect us with the universality of God like having a faithful life yet.

That is not to say that worldly pleasures are bad. They are good, but can never fill the void in our hearts that was made for God. It'd be like putting a square into a triangle shaped hole, it just doesn't work.

Everything in moderation is a saying that a lot of people have. Shopping, alcohol, computer, friends, movies, music, sports, reading all need to be moderated so we don't become consumed by them, because they do give pleasure, sometimes more immediate than our faith life, however that doesn't mean that they can replace that life. I forgot to put sex in there, sex is definitely something that needs moderation and control, and a wedding band ;)

"Our hearts are restless until they rest in You, o God."-St. Augustine.

No, not from any standpoint. Anyone can buy things. It takes no talent to spend money. Nothing special about that at all. And worldly pleasures lose their appeal after a while, especially without family or true and admirable friends. Plenty of poor people find they have empty lives too. It sure is easier to console yourself for an empty life if you can shop.

No. Not at all because all those things are going to give you pleasure but I think, may bo for one day, one month or lets say years but every human being on this earth needs peace and happiness from inside and that comes when we help others in need and don,t hurt anyone on purpose and always think good and pray for others even if that person has hurt you or did not help you when you were in the need. Peace, love, happiness , lots of smiles to you and all. I hope this helps you.

No. But neither does a life devoid of worldly pleasure make people happy.

What it does is satisfy all the curiosity and the urges to be hedonistic. After that, it's easier to settle into a life that is more socially acceptable, at least that has been my experience.

No - read Ecclesiates - it tells us that having worldly pleasure and worldly things is "striving after wind" - of no use really. Knowing God and His Son, Jesus Christ - that is real happiness and joy. Blessings dear one.

I believe it depends on what you consider wordly pleasure.
