earlier today, i sterilized plastic baby bottles, nipples, etc. problem is, i went out but forgot to turn the stove off. when i got home, everything melted. smoke filled the entire apartment. the fire department got the smoke out, but the smell remains. is the smell toxic, or dangerous? i'm airing out now, so hopefully it'll be gone soon.

The smoke would have been toxic, but I don't think the lingering odor is as much of a worry. I doubt the fire department would have allowed you to stay, if it was.

I'm glad that it wasn't any worse...

Yes, some plastics give off dangerous gases when they melt. YOu may need to paint the walls or fumigate.

No it's not toxic, if it was they wouldn't have let you back in your home.
