I'm somewhat of a Deist, and I don't necessarily believe God "walked away" from the creation. Instead, I think he set forth a series of laws and such for how everything should work and fit together, and then just sat back and let it work. You know that watchmaker argument that the creationists always use to refute atheistic evolution (it's an apples to oranges comparison, too...but that's another story for another time)? Well, you could apply that to this scenerio. A watchmaker makes a watch, making everything to work a certain way under certain laws and so forth, then he sits back and lets it work. He doesn't intervene with it too much...unless of course the battery needs changed.

Good analogy, I think.

And just a little side note here, while there are some Deists who believe that God created everything and then "walked away" from it in some form, not all of them believe that way, like some other answerers have pointed out. Just like not all Jews have the exact same beliefs, and not all Christians have the exact same beliefs, and so forth---not all Deists share the same beliefs, either.

Peace out.

Not all Deists believe that. They don't believe he went away, just he doesn't have any direct contact with the physical world. He's probably watching us the same way we watch the news. *wink*

Why do you say he walked away? He rested, thats all. Perhaps a lot more study would help you understand God's relationship with His creation. You know, so you don't make anymore ignorant statements about something you know little about..

Home. You know, to the old ball and chain. There's always yard-work or some chore that needs to be done. You got the kids throwing fireballs at the neighbor's firmament, the dog has to be walked.... it just never ends.

God didn't walk away. God is everywhere at all times. God is not limited by time and space.

Could be anywhere. Could be dead. Point is, he doesn't listen to your petty prayers (nor mine, just saying all prayers are supplications, nothing more - god what a drag it would be to listen to them) and he doesn't control the outcome of wars or sporting events.

God is still God and He is in Heaven - where He was from the beginning and will be until the end.
