I have that same problem.
I usually drink warm fluids like tea or milk starting an hour before I go to bed. Also if you are taking naps during the day stop cause that can keep you from sleeping at night.
Try to establish a bedtime and a wake up time so that your body gets into a rhytim this might help also...
good luck hun!!

I have always had trouble going to sleep. I have never taken a sleeping tablet (ok once on a 24hr flight....it didn't even work!!!). However I have found these things to help.
1. No caffeine....I don't have any after 4pm (other wise my mind buzzes till 1 or 2 am)
2. No naps during the day
3. I have used magnesium tablets...they are actually excellent. You can get them from a health food shop (make sure its the easily absrobed(chelated) version.
4. Lavender essential oils. I put some on my pillow and it helps to relax you.
5. I have often got up to have a shower (i like to have it in the dark!) Its relaxing and helps to relax muscles that get tense.
6. Sometimes eating near bedtime does not help, so I try not to eat 2-3hrs before going to bed and this has helped me.
7. Occasionaly I have taken a paracetomol. This can help, but I try to rely on the other methods before doing this.
8. The routine idea is good....try going to bed at a similar time. I find that after 11pm I find it much harder to go to sleep.
9. sometimes tensing your muscles up and then consciously relaxing them ie start with toes, then ankles, calves, thighes etc can really help too.
Have a good nights sleep

See what effect a warm bath has on you - if it relaxes you, try that before bedtime. Some people dring warm milk or Chamomille tea, some stop all caffeine, some change eating habits and others change exercise patterns i.e. time of day or cut back/add more. Try to figure out what the problem and fix it as naturally as you can. Booze or sleeping pills might get someone to sleep, but it usually isn't as healthy or restful of a sleep.

I think i'm the ONLY person feeling u on this, this has been a serious problem for over ten years, my mom has the same problem, its simple, i worry too much, but i've been hooked on excedrin p.m. for like three years, twice the dosage b/c my system became immune, i have tried everything under the sun, i tried tea, not taking naps, being dirt dog tired, and my mind never quits, even when i take the pills i have to have my ceiling fan on high 365 days of the year, total silence other than the fan, and an eye mask, where u cover ur eyes, this is very frustrating, i hate that im hooked, my mom even takes the lunesta and whatever else thats out there and she still winds up taking something, ALL of them r habit forming, i use to sleep in class and be very cranky from lack of sleep , so as soon as school ended i drove home and took a 2-3 hour nap, EVERYDAY, except for freshman sports, even if i get up at 6 a.m. and not go to bed til 12 at nite, my body will give out, but my mind wont, ill sit up and think of everything, i've even found myself to override the sleeping pills, by not responding to sleepiness that they give u to go to sleep immediately, this is my biggest downfall, nothing i'm proud of, i know i need help, but i've got to sleep not nap, and sometimes i still wake up at like 2 or 3 in the morning and it may take another hour to get back to sleep, sometimes i sing a gospel/christian song in my head, sometimes it helps, i even tried orchestra/symphonic music, nothing has worked, i dont want to have liver trouble like the bottle says, if anyone knows anything i dont, please e-mail me, i'm wide open on this, if u wont to end up like me then yeah go ahead, otherwise find an alternive, i have to tell myself at least its not crack or meth and im not a drunk, but we all have downfalls

over the counter sleeping pills are nothing more than the allergy medicine benadryl. Do not think you have to be of a certain age to buy benadryl.
Cut out the sodas, no caffeine. Exercise more during the day. Avoid too much tv at night. do not go to bed with the tv on. on weekends do not oversleep, do not lay in bed til noon. Sleeping pills really do not offer a very restful nights sleep. try chamomile tea or a hot bath at night with lavender bath oil.

mother may be right. I would not let a 13-year-old take sleeping pills, nor would I allow my 14 year-old son do it.
Advice 1---you won't like it---exercise.
ideas 2-8
2)a SMALL serving of whole-wheat pasta or brown rice with a little parmesan cheese---no butter.
3) before bed, a warm bath.
4) soothing classical music. (The Eagles Greatest Hits worked like a charm on my son for years.)
5)Here is a weird one that I saw in a newspaper and it works for me---holding a finger against one nostril, breathing in, then breathing out through the other nostril. sounds weird---WORKS
6)A pillow between your legs.
7)Close yer eyes---NOT NOW---ok, focus on the darkest place you can see on the backs of your eyelids. It'll move---keep looking for the darkest patch. Works for me.
8)Keep a textbook from your least favorite subject in school next to your bed, and read ahead in it.
If none of that works, well, sorry---all the best, Brian

Please don't get into a 'pill habit!' Lay off caffiene, drink lots of water; you could be dehydrated; stay away from the computer and tv a few hours before bedtime, try herbal tea, and talk to someone about what is bugging you. Sometimes, you just have to tell your brain to shut up. It is hard to do, but if you want, you can control this.

Stop drinking any soda after lunch, take a warm bath or shower 1/2 hour to 45 minutes prior to bed. Exercise will help you sleep better, but don't do it too close to bedtime.

The youth can have a lot of fun at parties like all nighters that show scary movies. You better look at the facts . You make friends best when very young after that it gets harder. Find a new friend who is an outcast like yourself . Can you do it alone . Most have difficulty in seeing life unemotionally . Good luck.

Stay away from pills. Have a night time bed ritual—Bang! Bang! You are dead, brush your teeth and go to bed. You can read something not exciting, and, when tired, turnoff the light and think of what you have read in pictures. Visualization of relaxed memories without conscious reflection leads to sleep. I visualize any of the comfortable settings where I felt completely relaxed. If you awaken during the night, try to recapture the dream thart you were havining and reshape it to your liking. Good night..
