When I try to uninstall McAfee using the Add/Remove program, I get the message "Could not open INSTALL.log file." I need to uninstall it now, so how can I do this?

I used this tool from mcafee for the same reason it should do it for you too.

You run in to a common problem with uninstalling software. McAfee products are notorious for being difficult to remove. So much so that they have created their own special program to uninstall their software. It is called "McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool." You can find the tool and instructions on how to use it at (http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq3.asp?docid=408302).

Be aware that the tool removes all McAfee products. So, if you have other McAfee software installed on your computer, it will remove them as well.

If the tool fails to resolve the problem, you can use an uninstaller program. Uninstaller programs are special programs which will scan your computer for all files and registry keys which belong to the offending software program and remove them. There are several such programs, try Tune-Up Utilites. Tune Up Utilities is actually a suite of software programs, including an uninstaller. It comes with a free 30 day trial (http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/). It has many other tools which can clean and optimize your computer in addition to being able to remove software.

Try this: Go to Start / Programs and put the mousie pointer on McAfee. To the right some of the McAfee options / programs should appear. See if one of them is UNINSTALL. If it is there, it should work. Many programs have their own UNinstall along with the program.
Good Luck.

1)Trying going to where it is installed and using its uninstall program.
2"Try installing it again and the uninstaller might work.
3)If that doesn't work, type "msconfig" without quotes in "run" in the start menu. Go to startup and find all of the McAfee virus scanner options and uncheck them. Restart your pc. Now delete all references to McAfee in your hard drive, including the McAfee folder. Run "msconfig" again and go back to startup. Press the cleanup key. All references to McAfee should now be gone. You might want to clean up your registry by removing the McAfee entries.

Try McAfee's web site, they may have an uninstaller tool, like Symantec do for Nortons.
