My cat has recently started spraying on items in the backyard. Why would she be doing this? Could she be trying to attract males?

Thanks for the answers. No, nothing else has changed in the household and she is not spraying in the house. Sometimes when I want her to come inside in the evening she is just sitting by herself in the middle of the yard. I suppose she could be guarding the yard as there is a number of cats that wander through.

Its Spring and many cats are on the prowl looking for mates or simply out adventuring. Your cat is spraying not to attract mates, but to mark her territory. My male cat is doing the same when I take him out for walkies. uhmmm... I hope your kitty is safe outdoors? Be sure to keep her in at night bcuase that's when cats get into fights.

I doubt it. But while it is less frequently noted, I have known a few female cats who would mark territory as well.

Has anything else changed in your kitty's life?

if she is only spraying outside she is likely telling a new cat in the neighbourhood that is her turf. if it is inside then you would want to look at other changes in her home that she may be uncomfortable with.

maybe another animal is doing the same. cats do this to "mark their territory" she probably noticed another cat or animal in your back yard and that is her warning to back away cuz its her turf :) trust me its not to attract the fellas!
