It wouldn't be.
It would, however, be seen as a terrible threat by the ones who do believe in it. Some would use it as an excuse to talk down to you with annoying smugness (as have several in this thread already), while others might go as far as actively harassing you at your home and/or job.

Your question is "why would it be wrong...", not "would it be wrong..." so it seems like you're assuming that it would actually be wrong not to believe in God. I think a person's belief is too individual for anyone else to judge, so it would only be wrong if you thought it was wrong. And if you thought it was wrong, it would mean that you have some secret belief that there actually is a God. That kind of leads us back to the point that you don't actually ... not believe ... in God.
I choose to live as if there is a God, because I like the value system that goes along with it. If it turns out that I'm wrong, then I've lived a good life and I'm just dead in the end.

It isn't wrong. Anything that would remotely come close to being a Perfect God who is Just, Merciful, All-knowing, All-Powerful... would know, well ahead of time, that people would not accept the concept. I can't imagine something that powerful wanting to torture someone for eternity, or punish people for not believing.
The whole thing reeks of contradiction to say such a being exists yet would be angry for his own creation doing something he knew they were going to do. *Sigh*

Nothing is wrong about not believing in a god, it is your choice, and as the christians say, god did supposedly give everyone freedom of choice in their lives without exception.
I think you will only have a problem with it psychologically, and other overly religious people telling you that to disregard any such god is blasphemous to condem you to hell.

We are living in the last days...Enjoy life, but stay within God's guidelines. God will hold us accountable for everything we do, and who wants to explain ungodliness to a holy God on the day of judgment.

I don't know about being "wrong" per se.
I think some people have different ideas of what or who God is...some believe in the white man with a beard. Others believe in a life force. others believe god is in everything surrounding us, others believe in human potential...i.e. the God or Goddess in all of us.
It's rare to find a person who is truly a person who believes in nothing at all...because we're all hard wired to have some sort of spiritual dimension whatever it may manifest itself to be.... in the end only you can decide for yourself what you believe to be that higher force...

It isn't about being right or wrong. It's about loving yourself enough to take that chance that you could actually be right if you dare to believe in God. Put it this way: what's the worst thing that can happen if you believe in God and it turns out that God is not real? Well, you would die, only to never be awakened from death and enter into Heaven and in God's presence. You would remain dead. No harm done in your believing in God. Supposing you were right, then when you die, you would go to Heaven and live in complete and utter joy forever.
Now, suppose that you did not believe that God is real, and it turns out that you were wrong. The worst thing that can happen is that you will die, be awakened from death, only to be judged by the God you didn't believe in and told you would be spending eternity in hell, separated from God.
If I was going to be wrong about something, I would rather be wrong about believing in God than be wrong about not believing in God. If you look at it from strictly a humanistic point of view, it makes sense to take your chances with believing and being wrong and letting your death be final, than to not believe and be wrong and to spend eternity in hell.
As for me, I do believe in God and despite the ups and downs in life, my life is happy and full because of my relationship with Him.
God bless you.

God gave each of us a choice.
It's His desire that each person knows him...you're not better or worse based on your decision...but as someone who did choose, I can say that my life has been more enjoyable to believe...not easier, more profitable, or more "Holy." I've just found such satisfaction and deep joy as a result.
I hope the 2 cents of a (hopefully) humble and content disciple of Jesus helps you on your journey.

Romans 1:18-19
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
I find it interesting that you pose the question at all. I think that God is drawing you to Himself, leading you to ask these kinds of things.
John 6:44
"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day."
Mark 1:15
... , "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."
