I'd like to know the best wine you've ever tasted. What was it and where was it from?

The best wine I had was Opus One. It's expensive ($200 a bottle), but it was excellent. The wine is a joint venture by Robert Mondavi and Baroness Philippine de Rothschild. The wine itself is a Bordeaux-style blend, very unique and very good. It's from Napa Valley, California.

Another decent one I have tried that's affordable is the Vinum Cabernet Sauvignon from South Africa. I recommend it if you enjoy Cabernet's. It definitely has beaten more expensive wine's that I have tried. The bottle usually runs around $12.

I enjoy wines made from smaller wineries. I think it is important to buy wine responsibly and by that I mean don't keep feeding the machine that is the corporate wine industry, but support the locals on a global scale.

I try and avoid Mondavi, Yellowtail type factory wines like the plague.

I love Grüner Veltliners from Austria and Mencias from Bierzo, Spain to name two out of a thousand.

My mom made the absolute BEST homemade pear wine from fresh ripe Arkansas pears. It took lotsa patience tho'.....6 months from start to finish before sampling, but well worth the wait! Mellow fruity deliciousness!!!

Yellow Tail Cabernet Shiraz and Barefoot, they are cheap and very good.

Spanish wines are also very good.
