im in football and right now we are in offseason and my friends are taking protien shakes and wieght gainers becuase they want to get bigger but i am right where i want to be but i wanted to know if i do take protien shakes, will it cause me to have a major increase in weight or will it just affect my weight becasue of the workouts?

yes, too much protein and no activity will cause fat gain...
if you want to get big hit the gym , take your proteins and eat really good.
if you want to get fat just keep sucking down those protein shakes and sit on your butt til the season starts

if the protein shake is just protein (not weight gainers as they have tons of sugars) even if it was to cause a caloric excess it would not contribute to any measurable amount of fat gain.

the body does not readily convert an excess of protein to lipids and then store it in the fat cell. the process of converting proteins to amino acids, then to glucose, then to a lipid and then to ATP expends more energy than is gained. one gram of amino acids only provides one unit of ATP whereas one molecule of glucose could provide 30+ units of ATP and a molecule of fat several times that.

the human body does not readily waste energy.
