It's really a historical fiction, meaning that the book is based on SOME historical facts but most of it is fiction. The difficulty is that many people cannot differentiate between facts and fiction, and that includes many Christians!!
And although Dan Brown clearly states in the introduction that it is a work of fiction, he specifically pointed out that the HISTORY is true. And this really wasn't so. Case in point : the Dead Sea scrolls have nothing to do with the historical Jesus, since they were written before the time of Jesus.

De Vinci knew nothing about the last supper (what he painted wasn't historically accurate or biblically accurate). As for the book, it's crap. But people believe it, like it's the truth.
Think about this. If I wrote a book about WW2 from the point of view of a Nazi, in which I state that the Jews had it coming and deserved what happened to them (I don't believe this, it's an example), what do you think would happen? It wouldn't be published, but let's pretend it did. And then people start believing my book because I have some "facts" in there.
That is the danger. People are believing Dan Brown's book even though it's false. It's no better then the example I gave you. It takes something that is sacred to many and twists it and demeans it and spits on it. But people want to believe it because anything that causes a scandle is great fun.

first of all, the fresco became broken over the years, so some element has been lost. initially, there might have been easy facial hair, we don't recognize. Secondly, androgyny would not make the discern a female. The artist knew that the discern may be widespread as John. Thirdly, the "female" factors of the discern are doubtful. long hair isn't female, neither is purely clasping your hands. Fourthly, if the artist did intend to color a female; that could purely be info of the artist's objective. The fresco isn't info of something different than the artist's imaginative and prescient.

Leonardo DiVinci did not have anything to do with that book. The author of the book did not base the book around DiVinci. Where on earth would you get the idea one was based on the other. If you do your research on DiVinci, he was a sarcastic painter. He hated religion and most of the paintings he painted about religion were to make fun of the whole Christian faith. The funny thing about DiVinci was he belonged to secret religious "clubs" or "orders" to base his art on. He was highly trusted in the excentric circles he ran in.
I suggest you have a more informed opinion the next time you decide to trash someone's creativity. The book was briliantly written and well researched, even if it was fiction.

Why do so many feel threatend by it? Because so many believe it. So many (includung someone very close to me) have turned further away from Christ because of this book, although all will say that really the book has no hold on their opinion. So then why do people use so much reference to the book? It really is a threat to the salvation of so many! Prayer, the best thing. And if you confrunt someone about this topic, and they are siding with the book, and you are trying to convince them otherwise; deal with them in love, not in wit or brains, love. Which was the tree that ruined us: the tree of Knowledge, or the tree of Life? Always in love, which is the source to all life.
Thank you for reading this comment, i hope it helped.

I believe that he probably knows about it than any of us will ever know. Da Vinci was famous for his observation and how he used this knowledge he collected by observing to create his inventions. He was also very ahead of his time and do you think that a person of great intelligence would make or invent such rumors? Think of it this way, why did the Catholic church feel so threatened? Why is it that they immediately began to tell their followers that this was fiction? Don't you think they are hiding something that Da Vinci wanted people to know?

Well if you know much about Di Vinci you would know that he was a brilliant man who knew a lot about many things that the average person today doesn't. I get your point though, it's a work of fiction.

there has been alot of bloodsheed over the church and the knights templar. the church went one way and the knights templar went another way. its about science against religion. alot of the aluminatey went underground when the knights templar were killed off by the church. di vinci was a man of science no body really knows what happend so no one knows if it is science or fiction. science hasnt proven that everything in the bible is true but again it has in other areas. well this is were faith comes in believe what hasnt been proven or dont believe untill you see with your own eyes. well science has proven jesus was real and that he was crucified and he was killed for nothing. an inocent man who didnt break the law. if davinci knew something it died with him.

I don't know why people were threatened by it. Why are people threatened by ANY work of fiction?
Personally, I find Dan Brown's books to be very thought-provoking and entertaining. I LOVED his book "Angels and Demons."
