I have an EIN # for my company as a sole proprietor, I'm changing it to an LLC (single member), do I need to contact the IRS for a new EIN since it's an LLC now or is there no change since it's a single member? Thanks.

if you have employees you need to change your EIN#. If not then you could have used your SS# for both entities.

I believe Jo Blo's response is wrong. An LLC is a new legal entity and as such needs its own EIN. Any time there is a new entity created, it needs its own identification.

Normal1's response below is spot on!!!!

I'm pretty sure you do, since you are changing the form of business. At the very least, you would definitely need to notify them of the change, they may respond that you must change your EIN.
