Students walk out of classrooms in solidarity with those who are urging they get another day out of school. Irony here is that most of the students in LA schools, or their parents, come from countries with no guaranteed free public education. So now they want to reduce the amount of education American taxpayers are providing them here.
How quickly history is rewritten.
Chavez stood not for unregulated immigration or the civil rights of illegal or legal aliens. Chavez simply wanted to organize an unskilled labor sector to achieve a fair wage for a day's work.
My guess is that many of the groups who have taken up the banner of Chavez have no understanding of the man, his movement or the times. Were Chavez alive today, based on his attitudes then, today he would be a forceful voice against unregulated immigration from Mexico and a quiet bystander on a broad range of civil rights beyond labor law.

tm99, I am in agreement with you. They want the easy road and we all are 100% aware of it.
People talk about how they are willing to do the crummy jobs "no American wants", yet I have done those jobs, as well as all of my family members. Yet when Americans try to work in those jobs, all of the illegals do all they can to subvertly harass and badger that Americajn till they leave (I am currently helping an older lady with such a problem). Why would this be? Because THEY know the "jobs Americans won't do" rhetoric is not true and they feel threatened when an American comes in and proves they WILL do the job.
Now to this walk-out thing. They are a bunch a lazy anti-American punks who are biting the hands that feed them, thats why they walked out, and we need to boot their illegal, anti-American selves out of our country, anchor babies and all.
Not compassionate enough for you? Well then we will keep the ones under 5 and make them into decent Americans who are loyal to American and their fellow citizens, all the rest are too old and tainted by their parents anti-American hate, they have to go with their families.

I hate to sound cruel, but how many of these students really want to be in class in the first place???
Even without the"cezar Chavez" holiday, these illegal immigrants have had it twenty times easier and better than the rest of us who followed the rules each and every step of the way. Excuse my rudeness, but however f**ing more do they want??? these illegals' children most likely wouldn't even have a snow flake's chance in hell to even be literate back in their own country, Now that they sneaked into this country ruined many towns and cities, grabbed all the public resources from the citizens who paid for them and try in many places to lower the school standards because they are too darn lazy to study hard and do well in school. Now they want a NATIONAL HOLIDAY????

FRAGINAL
were you aware that in LA in many schools after your fifth absence your name is given to the City Attorney's office to follow up with why you were out, and only a doctor's note is an acceptable excuse?
Do you think they thought it through?

But to tell you the truth, it's the first I heard too. The media must be protecting them.

Student walkout is necessary in order that their issue will be noticed so that appropriate action will be taken. Mass demonstration is a potent weapon for airing of grievances against the government and school officials.
