If you've stopped breastfeeding and you continue to pump your breasts, you won't stop making milk. There are pills the doctor can give you to dry up the milk, but they take a while to work. Your breasts will get really hard for a couple of days before the milk starts to go away. In the meantime, try wearing an ace bandage around your chest, or a tight sports bra - either of those will really help with the pain of engorgement by supporting the breasts firmly.

Take some pain killers.
As you may know the more milk that is either expressed or drunk by the baby the more your body makes.
The trick is to express a small amount from each breast when they are terribly engorged but not nearly as much as your baby would have taken.
This means your body thinks it is slowly weaning and will start to make less milk over a week or so. I would express each time you usually feed if you are getting to that very engorged painful state.
I used to put hot face clothes over each breast when they were at bursting point. This would ease the discomfort and also would help just let a little milk out. You could have a shower and let the hot water run over them and this may cause the milk to let down and release just enough without encourgaing your body to make more.
I have heard of other women placing cabbage leaves on each breast that have been refridgerated for a cooling soothing effect.

This worked for me when I stopped breastfeeding:
When taking a shower let the water run over your breasts, using the warmest water you can stand. The warm water will help the glands release the milk, and will help you relax while doing so.

Dont want to release your milk or they will keep getting engored. You can put ice packs on them. Dont put warm water on them.
