I would think most of them are dark colors , just like how they color milk bottles now it would block more UV light and keep the product fresh longer.. it also gives the illusion that the beer is a darker color and seem more quality

Beer bottles are brown or dark green because the exposure to the ultra violet rays from the sun. Light can degrade the quality of the beers taste, therefore placing it into dark bottles to keep the light exposure limited, and the tastee a bit fresher.

Light is harmful to beer. Dark bottles prevent light from spoiling the beer. However, some beer companies use clear bottles for marketing purposes.

Most of the above is the reason. Direct sunlight will effect the flavor of the brew if left outside for awile but most beers never make it outdoors unless your popping it out of the fridge and going outdoors. Otherwise I would say because if most young people seen how close that most brown bottled beers resemble piss they would go find something else to drink.

The hops used in making beer are sensitive to ultra violet light once they're boiled. When exposed to UV light, the alpha acids (from the hops) undergo a chemical change, causing a skunky flavor and aroma. This is called 'light-struck.'

Brown glass offers decent protection again UV rays. Green bottles offer less. Clear bottles offer none.

Beer will go off faster in clear glass bottles, unless they are kept in the dark.

It filters the damaging rays of the sun. Over a hundred years ago or so, they used to come in green bottles. I think it changed after prohibition.

Brown glass is used because it is similar in color to the beer itself. It just looks "better". And it's easy to recognize that the bottle is for beer by the color. I believe there used to be some system where different colors of glass were used for different substances.

That's a good question. It can't be for much more than aesthetics because just as many bottles are green and clear.
