Most 'human' food is far superior for the dog's health than any of the brands of kibble that you will find at the grocer's.
However, there are many food items that dogs metabolize differently than humans do, so it is easier to just say, "No people food" than to try to remember what they really shouldn't have..
Dogs Shouldn't Have:
Onions (in any form)
Added salt (most prepared foods are salted)
Nitrates, which is in most processed meats
Mono-sodium glutamate, which is in SO many of our food items.
Chocolate, or candy of any kind.
Raisins or grapes
Fruit seeds/pits, and most tree nuts are harmful.
Turkey fat/skin can be devastating, causing pancreas disease.
No cooked bones..
No corn or soy (found in most dog foods)
No fresh milk products, at all..
Nothing containing caffeine, such as coffee, cola or tea.
Nothing with excess fat, and ONLY low fat cheese
Easy on the organ meats (liver, etc) and easy on the cabbages and tomatoes.
SO, if one can remember all the "dont's" then you can create a healthy dog diet from 'human' food items.
I give my dogs small amounts of safe 'human' food, daily, and feed a wholesome kibble (not from the grocer's)
The diseases that humans get that are food related, are from the processed foods, chemicals in water, and excessive pesticides used in growing. Also the growth hormones used to fatten meats. However, avoiding processed foods and eating as natural as possible will redice the risks of food related disease, and keep humans and pets healthier.

Human diseases generally cannot pass to another species. There are rare exceptions, but those exceptions cause from a mutation in the pathogen that causes the disease, not sharing food.
Can a dog get sick off of food not intended for nonhuman consumption? Yes, and he probably will. Stick with a high-quality pet food.

IT's just awful how these people have been popping up all over the place since the recall. If you want to spend good money on this then go ahead. I think it's a scam!
There are plenty of very good dog foods on the market that will suit your dog. Try Cadiae or Timber wolf, Dick VanPattens. I know everyone is worried but lets not go so nuts that we are buying into this kind of thing.

No. The main reason they say not to feed your dog people food is it will probably get FAT...Really I just feel it is a money game anyway. Before dog food, what did they eat? Human food is a lot safer than going around eating rats and dead animals. That would cause diseases. Just try to watch what and how much you feed your pet.

I once talked to a guy from India who had a German Shep.. Pet stores aren't very common or widely used in India, so he didn't feed it dog food. He just cooked it up some rice, chicken, and vegetables.
Human food is not bad for dogs. It's the TYPES of human food (which are generally not good for humans either). If you're feeding them cheese burgers, then no, it is not good. Any kind of cheese is bad... pretty much any kind of dairy. If you're bent on cooking them something... make sure there is a grain, like rice, some vegetables... and some kind of meat.
The biggest misconception is that dogs are carnivores, and this isn't true. They are omnivores like people, and need vegetables too.
Hope this helps.

It's not good to feed your dog, normal people food, but, there are ways, like boiling, rice, chicken, hamburger meat, certain veggies.
My grandparents never bought commercial dog foods, and by feeding them in this manner, the dogs were almost never sick, they were not obese and lived to very old ages.
Never give them anything fried, or with any type of sauce or gravy.
I am by no means an expert, this is just how my grandparents did it.
Also try googeling natural foods or organic foods for your dog.
Good luck!

It is not good to feed your dog people food as a regular food, because ofen people food has way more fats and stuff which will make your dog get fat, but I have never heard of dogs getting human deseases from human food. But sorry, I haven't tried the link to the recipies.

Dogs eating people food causes many problems like failure to metabolize foods properly leaving them with liver problems and also most skin allergies dogs have are attributed to people food. I have switched to healthy choice and it is fine for my dog. Also Walthams is a good brand, I was studying to be a vet tech and visited Walthams plant in England and was quite amazed at how they carryout their research, it is not invasive nor is it corrupt like Iams. I fed my dog pedigree lamb and rice for many years until she decided to develop an allergy to it.
