Our outdoor cat had a kitten that was born behind our outside washer/dryer. It thinks that the area is her spot to go. It is difficult for me to get behind the machine to clean and w/summer near it's starting to smell and attract flies. Is there anything to spray or put back there to deter it from using that area?? Someone suggested sprinkling a spice on the ground, would this work?? If so, what type???

Cyanne pepper or even some sheets of aluminum foil, (not balled up) will work. The hate to walk on that.

Make sure you get the smell out first.

Do you have a litterbox for the cat indoors, and do you keep it scooped and clean? Cats will defecate outside the box if it it is dirty. Also, cats who are accustomed to going outdoors, don't like doing it where they are observed, or where people are.

You can sometimes overcome this with a covered litterbox, or if possible, put the litterbox where it is hidden away from people, like the basement or a closet.

Put something on either side of your washer to keep the cat from going in there. First, clean the floor with a strong soap and bleach, or get some pet odor products from your vet.

I have to ask, why do you have a washer and dryer outside? Try putting some mothballs there. Cat's don't seem to like them. They smell pretty bad but you'll only have to leave them for a couple weeks.
