It depends on the speed of your film (ISO/ASA) and how many times it goes through the x-ray machines. Faster films suffer more damage than slower films, because they are more light sensitive. Once or twice won't hurt, but if you're going through several airports, then you will notice fogging on the film.

Take a lead-lined bag for film. Ask to have it hand-checked. As soon as you finish a roll of film, send it away to have it developed, putting your home address as the return address, and your pictures will be waiting for you when you get home.

Oh, and never ever EVER put film in checked luggage. They get zapped with much higher doses of x-rays, and a single scan will ruin even the slowest rated film.

Only keep it in your carry on bag. The X-Ray machines supposedly don't damage the film though I have seen some lead lined film cases to prevent any possibility of damage. The Imaging techniques used on baggage will cause fogging to the film.

Take out ALL FILM from your luggage and put it in your carry on bag. The x-ray on the carry on is not as strong as the luggage so it will not ruin your film like the lugguage xray will.

Leave all film in your carry on bag, even if that means removing unsused film out of a camera to put in your bag. If you dont you will suffer the consicenses.

Edit: Space, even if they say they dont, I wont take the chances just because a priceless moment can be lost in time, Id rather take the time to put it in my carry on bag. Not that much room anyway.

As Koko says. Plus, ask them if it will hurt film, some machines do some don't. If the machine might, have them do a hand inspection instead and bypass the machine - they'll know what to do.

they're going to hand-examine your cameras via removing the lens cap and finding by the viewfinder. they gained't open the backs. Have all your extra action picture in a zipper-precise bag so they do no longer ought to open something. it is likewise ultimate if the rolls are seen, as destructive to easily the containers. And %. a protection line that's short.
