If you had any withholding tax taken out of your check, you should file. If you fall below the minimum income limits, you will get a refund of that tax. If you are above the limits, you may get a refund or you may owe, buy you are required to file.

Check out IRS Publication 501 for all the options and requirements at www.irs.gov.

Anyone CAN file a tax return. Pages 12 and 13 of the 1040 instructions deal with who is required to file. As a general rule, if your income is at least equal to your standard deduction + your personal exemption, you are required to file. If you earn less than that amount and had any Federal income tax withheld, you can claim a full refund if you choose to file.
