Running around the planet spreading their "word" destroying
indigenous cultures and in the case of the Mormons purposely trying to keep people out of "heaven".

Why can't missionaries just stay home just keep their "word" to themselves and leave good people alone.

Not everyone on the planet should be a Christian you know.

If missionaries could honestly go out and help the poor and genuinely spread the Love of Creation without an agenda maybe. But they are arrogant and pea brained enough to think that their way of life is appropriate for everyone.

In the process they more often cause harm, spread disease, cause conflict, and take advantage of the people they say they are trying to help.

Why can't they stay home and stifle?

Yes, I do. The reason that people should not all be Christians is because the world is full of different cultures and ideas. People forcing their religious beliefs down other people's throats is the biggest sin of all.

Have you ever heard of the Waodani tribe in Ecuador? Look them up sometime. It's thanks to the Christian missionaries that went to them (several of which were KILLED by the Waodani prior to that) that the Waodani are still alive.

Yes, in some cases missionaries hurt more than they help. But in many MORE instances, which I've read MANY accounts of, they bring much-needed food, water, and medicine to these indigenous tribes of other countries.

Watch the movies "The Mission," "End of the Spear," and "Beyond the Gates of Splendor." They'll give you a different perspective. "End of the Spear" is based upon the documentary "Beyond the Gates of Splendor," which is a true story.

It's not true that harm is more frequently wrought. It's just that that's all you hear about. The Waodani do not feel that they were taken advantage of. They feel that they were saved, in more ways than one.

Mormons not withstanding. Christian missionaries go in among the people and help them where they live. Yes the tell the people about Jesus and His work on our behalf but their work no more interferes with the local culture than the Peace Corp does.. Jim

You know what? Asking this question just made me a little more determined to become a missionary. You want to know why? Because I just added another person to my list of whom I'm going to make Christian!

There will come a day when you will only despise yourself for not listening. That day will be too late. In the mean time the truth is the truth whether or not it is popular or convenient. 1+1=2 is not for everyone you know, but is correct.

If all missionaries had stayed at home...we would never have had the "missionary position".
