On one hand, we have the government trying to preach abstinece into youngsters, while on the other hand we have celebrities making sex tapes. Why can't there be one common idea that all Americans feel about sex? Either you follow your urges and go about it mature and knowledgeable, or you completely abstain from sex until marriage.

Brainwashing a whole society is simply not going to be effective - it ony creates divisions amongst people, where one division will agree with the preacher, the other will oppose.

I suppose being founded by Puritans can have that effect on the development of your society.

It's been proven time and time again that teaching abstinence does not work. The most obvious proof shines in Texas. The state has two "top honors:" One in being the state with the abstinence programs in full force and the other in being the state with the highest teen pregnancies in the US.

I don't think there's brainwashing but I do think there is still a strong religious sect.

I don't think the American part has anything to do with it. The truth of the matter is human nature. We have the animal urges to engage in sex promiscuously countered against the religious teachings of chastity and fidelity. The deciding factor comes in individual agency. Do we believe in Heavenly teachings of morality or do we deny the existence of immortal judgment and follow our carnal urges? The two will always coexist no matter what path you choose because the authors of those two positions are alive and well and eternal in nature. Jesus represents the path of chastity, fidelity and Godly morality while Satan represents the path of carnal promiscuity. Thus, your choice is clear, righteousness or sin.

I think it has gotten muddled through the years. After all, look at what you see on tv and in movies, etc, 25 years ago you barely saw a womans legs, now look at all that you see. It just keeps getting worse and worse. So I do feel that there are homes, that have morals and values and teach their children, but for the most part, it has gotten way out of hand in this country.

sex is an age old temptation... thats not the problem... the problem is that today's youth do not have good family values.

its great when parents pass along a trust fund or inheritance... but what about morals? etiquette? learning right & wrong? it got lost somewhere... sure media encourages sex & scandal, but values start in the HOME

Young teens and a lot of adults do not want to conform. People seem to want to do their own thing. So with so many personalities in the nation, there will never be conformity-harmony or one idea of how to do religion, goverment, sex, anything.
My opinion

You know you always want what someone tells you that you can't have. Sex is as natural an urge as having to eat. If the government wants to try and preach abstinence, maybe they should first practice it and quit screwing the American Public!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
