Neither. Death is a door. When you go through a door, you go from one environment to another. Sometimes that environment can be extreme. You could be in an enclosed building with fluorescent lighting and stale air one moment, then in another moment into the expanse of the outdoors with birds singing, fresh air, trees and warm sunlight.
This is how God views death--a doorway from this world into eternity. We think of death as cruel and hateful, when all it really is is a door.
