Trufire Perhaps you should use a different name when asking questions like this one. I'm just an old man and find the combination amusing.

There is no Biblical condemnation for masturbation and there is no physical reason for a healthy man (of any age) not to do it. The only reference to anything like masturbation anywhere in the bible is Genesis 38:9 &10 Actually you should read several verses before that to understand what was going on. In the story Onan's older brother raised a bad son so bad that according to the story God killed him and his father. Judahs wife told her father n law that she had a right to have a child (a very important thing to women of that time because they hoped to be the progenator of the mesiah).
Anyway Onan did not want to give his brother credit for any good children so he refused to give her a baby choosing to spill his seed (masterbate) instead. God did not like that and killed him also. This giving the wife of a brother was the custom of the day so every girl would have the chance of being the ansestor of the Mesiah. Hope that answers your question.

To Jlf
Why do you answer questions directed to Christians when you obviously are not a Christian. From your profile you seem to gravitate to questions directed to Christians. This queston is a prime example.

I'm 18 years old I started Masturbating when I was 13. I just couldn't control myself. I prayed and would force myself to suffer two or three days and would actually lay there and cry, but then I just couldn't keep my hands off. I just had to do myself. Finally I went and talked to the Ministers wife. She assured me that Masturbation was a normal release for a young girl. She told me that everyone did it both boys and girls and it is not a sin. NOT A SIN. She said that boys had to do it more often than girls. She said they had to do it almost every day sometimes. She told me it was not a sin and God gave us that way to pleasure our self and relieve the tension of every day living. I'm no longer a Christian but I believe it was good advise. I still Masturbate two or three times a week and enjoy it. You should Masturbate as often as you like and enjoy it there is nothing wrong with Masturbating. If you would like to discuss it in private email me. God Bless kisses BB

I like Thomas's answer above...good stuff.

One effective technique though is related to chakras/energy miridians/pathways and how they can be affected by guided meditation.
When you feel you are being tempted, just breathe deep breaths, and imagine the sexual energy flowing up your spine and out the crown chakra(top of the head, near the back).
Also, to reiterate Thomas' point - don't have an anti-masturbation attitude so much as a pro-sexual stability attitude...it's a subtle but important difference.

In peace,

First, in order to be free from something, you must believe it is possible. You are not bound by sin - you died to it when you became a Christian. "For you have died and your life is hid with Christ in God." "Sin shall not have dominion over you." "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold are things are become new."

Second, it is the law that can make you a captive to sin. "The strength of sin is the law." Since we were by nature sinners before receiving the new birth, all that someone had to do to stir up rebellion is tell us we can't do something that we felt like doing. Ever see what happens when someone posts a "Don't touch, wet paint" sign? Inevitably, someone has to test this. By focusing on the wrongness of masturbation, you are liable to ensnare that side of you that wants to do it. Realize that you are NOT under the law and that your are free to walk away.

Lastly, my brother, "Be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God." "Do not give place to the devil." "Do not set stumbling block of your iniquity before your face." If you have illicit material or a TV in your bedroom, get rid of it. Pray to God the next time you are temped, memorize this scripture, and quote it to the devil the next time you're tempted: "The unrighteousness shall not inherit the Kingdom of God."

You can overcome "By the word of your testimony" and by "not loving your life unto death."

This should do it! Think of positive, victorious things and you shall win!

There is nothing wrong with masturbation. It isn't a sin. The sin of Onan was that he disobeyed God, who ordered him to marry and have children with his brother's widow.

If you feel guilty about masturbating (or anything else), you should ask God for forgiveness.

But, biologically, at 16, your body is full of hormones that drive you to want sexual stimulation. At least, when masturbating, you are not in danger of getting any diseases or getting (someone) pregnant. Also, it can actually HELP you to achieve goals you might have about remaining a virgin until marriage.

If you feel that you masturbate too often, you might wish to talk to someone with a bit more ability to help you than Yahoo! Answers, like a doctor, councilor, or spirital advisor.

First, and most important, recognize that it is a sin.

Second, speak to God, and confess everything. He already knows everything, but you need to tell Him.

Third, get help from a counselor who understands this harmful behavior, and will know how to help you. Talk to your pastor or other church leader. Sin separates you from God because of the normal guilt that you feel from this. God's grace can clean you and make you free.

Fourth, ignore all those who tell you that this is normal. All sexual sin (misuse of those special feelings that God put in all of us) brings a barrier between us and God. Listen to your heart. It is telling you that it is wrong. Repentance and giving up the sin will bring us back to confidence in Him.

God bless you. I will pray for you!

That is a toughie... When I had problems with masturbation I tracked how many days I went without doing it, then kept trying to set newer, longer records. That works for me being kind of competitive, maybe it will for you too. But I just said a prayer...

There is a lot of controversy over this, personally I feel that this is a permissible thing for a christian to do. However, the best thing to do, is ask for strength. With God, all things are possible.

just don't lust when u masturbate. No playboy book, movies, etc. Other than that, the the bible carries no wisdom about masturbating. And it would tell if this was a sin. It came naturally to me. It talks about all other sexual behaviours in the bible but not masturbating. And it helps lower the sex drive that causes lust full intentions.
