Here are the distances needed to swim a mile: 25 yard pool: 72 lengths or 36 laps 50 yard pool: 36 lengths or 18 laps 25 meter pool: 66 lengths or 33 laps 50 meter pool: 33 lengths or 17.5 laps As for the calories that you burn you would have to have some really specialized equipment to measure that kind of stuff. Typically caloric measurements for food products sold for human consumption use a device known as a calorimeter: it measured how much thermal energy can be released by a volume of a product but in this case you would need a much more sophisticated setup for an experiment. You can approximate how many calories you used by using body feedback information but a real experiment wouldn't be easy to do. Assuming that you swam 30 lengths in a 25 yard pool at a high school swimmer's practice speed you probably used up around 200 calories or so based on some information that I know that some experiments before have done.

Freight cars can be as short as 35 feet or as long as 250+ feet in the case of articulated multiple platform and well cars designed to accommodate inter-modal traffic.

Length would therefore vary according to which and how many of each of the cars there are in the train. Almost every aspect of railroad operations is subject to variables.

As freight trains go, an 80 car train is a gift.

A statute mile is 5280 feet.

There is no standard length due to the many variants of liquids and gasses that are transported. I would say the average length would be close to 60 feet...but thats just a guess.... I see them everyday.

60x80=4800ft.. mile=5280ft

There is no standard length. Look at the placard painted on the side of the car, it'll tell you the length.
