Call a Freight Forwarding company in your yellow pages. You can have someone crate up your things and then the freight forwarders will put it on a ship in a container. That is the least expensive way to go. Sometimes forwarders can suggest a full service company that will come to your home crate and transfer things for you along with doing all the paperwork.
If you have your address in Taiwan or you know someone you can send them to; You can put the books in a canvas bag (It is called an "M" sack or bag) supplied by the USPS and send them book rate to Tiawan - you can fill up an entire bag with up to 60# of weight and send it for something like $68 - best kept secret in the USPS system. Wrap it all up in boxes and declare it as books. I had a friend in Thailand I used to send her a bag once a month.
Here is what it says on line at USPS but you need to speak to your post office
Economy Mail
Direct Sack to One Addressee - M-Bags (260)
Regular
Weight Not Over 11 lbs. $17.60
Each additional pound or fraction of a pound $1.60
Books & Sheet Music, Publishers' Periodicals
Weight Not Over 11 lbs. $11.55
Each additional pound or fraction of a pound $1.05

RE:
Cheap international shipping company?
I'm moving to taiwan in the summer. Do you know what's a cheap international shipping company? I don't have much stuff, just 3-5 large boxes of cloths & books, a few guitars, two keyboards (61 key and 76 key, repespectively), and 3-5 small-medium sized boxes of household goods. To ship...

If you live in or near a city with an international seaport or international airport, you can look in the Yellow Pages to locate an International Freight Forwarder. They act as agents for exporters. Their primary task is to arrange the international transportation and to prepare the necessary documentation. They can also arrange insurance, crating, local transportation, international transportation, and anything else that shipment of your personal effects requires. They may or may not be able to arrange Customs clearance in Taiwan. If not, then it could be up to you to locate a Customs Broker in Taiwan.
All of these services will cost some money. The Freight Forwarder should not charge you anything to discuss your situation and get appropriate quotes for services needed. At least that will give you something to compare to UPS. But in the end, and since you are sending so little, I would suspect that UPS may still be your cheapest option.
I would advise you to rethink what you are taking with you. You can get household items and clothes in Taiwan. You may even be about as well off obtaining new musical instruments in Taiwan.
Good luck.

The cheap shipping cost has offered fresh lease of life to the import/export companies as well as individuals who are moving to different countries with complete household. Taking the macroscopic view of qualitative benefits if international shipping, we move further and discuss in detail the microscopic qualitative benefits of cheap international shipping.

DHL or Fedex. Check their rates out. I believe DHL is more competitive with pricing but that might just be for corporate accounts.
