I was thinking of getting the three wise monkeys around my ankle (speak no evil see no evil hear no evil) but kind of cartoonish. Obviously I've been looking up on the origin of the proverb and what I get from it is generally the idea of being ignorant to a situation, maybe the tattoo could be a reminder not to be. If that makes sense? Anyway tell me what you think of the idea and what you think of the saying itself (origins etc.) thanks!

My understanding is this Hear No Evil - do not "listen" to negative things said about others. See No Evil - do not only "look" at the negative things that others do. Speak No Evil - do not "speak" negatively about others to other people.
But there are other definitions see below, this is probably the original...interesting reading. Anyway, Whose to say whether that tat is a good idea for you or not? You'll be wearing it and nine times out of ten people who see it will view it as a personal statement and not a message, so whatever floats your boat.

Don't listen to these people. Whatever you get can have whatever meaning YOU assign to it. It does not matter. Take your time in choosing a tattoo. Some people get a tattoo for a special meaning which is cool and some people really like a certain symbol or design which is also cool. Some people will say it HAS to have special meaning. That is nonsense. Get whatever makes you happy. Good luck sweety and sorry for all the haters on here.

I'm a tattoo artist and I think it would be a pretty cool piece! I haven't installed on like it in over five years of tattooing! The ankle is a pretty painful place, but once it's done it's done. And the ankle can always be covered with socks! GO FOR IT

A tattoo is a personal choice..you really shouldn't rely on what other people think when it comes to what you select

I like the idea! My mom always wanted that, but with frogs instead.....I don't really see it being meaningless. I see it as a kid-like way of helping ourself when you look down at it!!

do whatever you want but, they can cost alot of money and even though it is now possible to actually remove the permenant ones now , it costs thousands of pounds, when your older you will regret it deeply ans wont have enough money to get rid of it. i would personally stick with hennah tattoos which people draw onto you using ink , then it peals off leaving a look - a -like permanent tatoo under it that lasts for weeks ! it loooks real , ive had one and my mate thought i had a real tatoo... everyone did !!!

You have to understand that any tatoo, regardless of it's content, basically says "Carnival Trash".
