I took my daughter for her first dental exam today. She's three.
We are fairly new to the area, so I had never visited this particular clinic before. I chose it because it was on the list of dentists in my area that our insurance covers and they could get us in the soonest. When I scheduled the appointment, I made it clear that she was very little and had not ever been to a dentist before. They said they wanted her to watch me have my teeth cleaned and then they'd do her. I told them I didn't think this would work, but they insisted that's how they do it so I went along with them. When we got to the clinic, we waited over an hour and she was getting tired from waiting when they finally took us to the exam room. They wanted her to sit on the floor. I said "No I don't think she's gonna sit on the floor, and she's tired. Just do her exam and I'll reschedule mine." The doctor started chuckling and said it was amusing someone with a "chubby kid" was so afraid of germs...

I told him that I did not appreciate him calling her "chubby" that her doctor had never had a problem with her weight and it was none of his business. He then started arguing with me and I still had the paper "bib" thing around my neck because he'd put it there to do my exam. In the midst of the arguement, he jerked it off and told me to leave and there is a red mark on my neck from him jerking it off of me. I was so upset I had to sit in the parking lot 5 minutes shaking before I could drive home and while I was sitting there, one of the assistants came out and said "He's upset because you're in his parking spot" so I left. I've already reported him to my insurance company and told them not to pay because he didn't do anything for us. Who else can/should I report this to?

That is horrible!! I cannot believe he did that. That is unprofessional. He should have never told you that he wanted to place your child on the floor, that is unsanitary, not to mention, not safe. There is a state licensing board you can take your complaint to, I would check the ADA website and search (your state) boards. When I see a child for the first time, I usually have the parent in there with me and I have the mother or father "assist" me. I am a new dentist, so I am not an authority on what technique works best, but I am appalled at the way he treated you and your child. Please never take your child to that person again.

This is horrible. If your married and you were my wife, I would have went back there and that dentist would have been running down the street screaming " I didn't mean it!" Well first thing is, You should probably call the Better Business Bureau. I'm not sure if this pertains only to sole proprietorship firms and not franchises and what not but if you call them and explain the situation someone may be able to help. SInce he jerked the bib off your neck you may (if you have photo or proof) be able to go file a civil complaint against him at your local PD this im also not sure of. But do searches on yahoo for Government organizations for Dentistry like the FCC is for radio. In respect I believe Dentists need to obtain licenses to practise in the state just as lawyers need to for the bar they work in. So you may also be able to report him to whatever government organization that licenses dentist. Hope this helps some, sorry about what happened.

I worked as a dental assiatnt for two and a half years, but i had to leave due to jerky dentists like that. I couldn't take them anymore. They act like they are better then everyone else, and treat there patients like crap. It's funny how they forget that without patients, they wouldn't have any money at all.

I say take a picture of the red mark on your neck as evidence and call the police on them.

I hope you get him bad! Good Luck!

I am so sorry he did that to you. I would talk to the police about this he assulted you. He had no reason to treat you like that because of some stupid parking place. An hour in a waiting room? I get angry after 20 minutes. I hope everything works out. Please tell the police! I want this guy paying you back for that mean action! Good luck!

UUUGH! Thats horrible. Theres probably some kind of licensing board, or American Dental Association he may have to belong too. We had a similar problem with a psycho childrens photographer, who was also quite late, and thought it acceptable to do this to a 1 year old. People working with children should know better.
