Not on eBay! There, an auction is a commitment to sell, not a sale. Signing over a title would be a sale!

I guess the auctioneer can set any rule he likes, and you can accept it or hit the highway. What he needs is to trust that you'll follow through on the sale, so he doesn't look like a schmoo. If he needs power of attorney, he REALLY doesn't trust you!

You sign the title over to the winning bidder AFTER the auction, after you get paid!
