How much do you feed? Is there anything special I need to be aware of when feeding my dane raw?

You would feed a dane 2-3% of its body weight daily. So for example a 100 pound dog at 2% would get two pounds of food daily.

You may want to check out http://community.livejournal.com/rawdogs/ They have lots of resources on their mainpage, and are always very happy to help with questions. The group ranges from people who have been feeding raw for years, to people just starting out.

im on my third dane an old brindle girl, she is ten healthy and we feed her iams, that being said

I would hesitate to feed raw food to my great dane because im still of the old school that bloat is this unweilding spector who haunts us in the night when we least expect it

bones and raw food just dont seem like a good bet with such a high incedence of bloat

however, my dog eats pizza too, so i guess that throws out what i said about careful

whatever you do will be good for your dane, becuase aside from food, danes thrive on compassion and commitment

You should be aware that most vets do not recommend that. Dogs are omnivores, just as bears and people. And the instances of diarrhea, food poisoning etc. are great. Check out what the experts (your vet) say before doing this. Yup, it works just fine for wolves, (and they die of it too) but your dog is not a wolf. If you like this dog, you will do your homework
