I want to but something's stopping me. I'm not a fragile looking woman or anything. Maybe I'll try it tomorrow. What do you think? It's just so DARK.

In a perfect world and society, yes. However, as you know, this is not a perfect world. Better safe than sorry. This society is not a safe place to run at 5:30 A.M for any female, without a body guard. You may want to consider investing in a treadmill or a gym membership. Safety first. God bless****

You have to judge your neighborhood of course, but my experience has been that troublemakers simply aren't up that early. The few leftovers from the night before should be messed up enough that you can outrun them or simply push them over.

You do have to worry about traffic and footing though. Run the route enough times in daylight that you know where the potholes and curbs are. As for traffic, assume you are invisible, and don't assume that the morons will pay any attention to traffic laws. Stop signs and turn signals are optional. The worst are the nitwits delivering the morning papers. They use the emergency flashers as if they are some sort of invincibility ray. Random turns, suddenly backing into or out of driveways, speeding, and of course running stop signs are expected.

But hey, if your schedule, like mine, dictates that as your only opportunity to run, have at it.

I'm with your gut. If it's too dark then find another plan.
I have a group that I take for walks several times a week, they want to meet at 6 am to go and I said no that it's too dark. It isn't safe and there are too many goof-ups out there. Listen to your instincts. I doubt that you would enjoy it, you'd be too leery of everything.

I would suggest you get a treadmill. I dont think it is safe that early. If your gut tells you not to, DONT do it. I trust my gut and it has helped me a lot.
