"We live in an age where science has become almost a religion unto itself, yet the more science learns about the history of ancient times the more the old religious texts are holding up. Why then are men still killing men over the basic human right to worship as they please? Why does one faith keep trying to win over another and hold that only their belief is the correct one when both people believe basically the same thing?

Unfortunately, the answer to these questions can only be "Money and Power". For centuries religion has been used as a political weapon and force by those benefiting most by the continuation of seperatist visions of religion."-part of a ULC (Universal Life Church) sermon

What are your opinions on this?

I agree. Money and power. Such ignorance is actually supported by the church because its the church who gets the money and power when they "win".

The greater the numbers in your religion that greater the money and power. Religion is the kingdom of men wanting to rule over other men. The ruling class in religions live quite well for doing next to nothing.

I think you've answered your own question.
It's about Power and Control but it's also very much about ignorance and ego.

The human race has not evolved enough to accept others as they are and love them anyway.

Each of us has our own relationship with our "God" on an individual basis- worldwide organized religion doesn't always recognize the individual. When the "powers that be" become secure in themselves and their relationships with "God" the killing will stop.
But that probably won't be in our lifetime.

The opposite of love is power - and mankind, particularly organized religions have always been more concerned with power than love.

In these modern times that's a good question.
God gives us free will to worship whoever/whatever we want. Blessings or consequences result.

There have always been religions that exploit people throughout the ages. In modern times, there is one that stands out:

Islam demands only their god be worshipped. And in the Qu'ran, and in the Hadith (Muhammad's OTHER book), killing infidels is to the glory of Allah, all in the name of pwer and authority over others.

(Praise, honor, and glory to Jesus only. Rev. 4:11)

The problem is not from religion but from maniacs who like to control and kill innocent people and try to force their ideas onto society. They do this in the name of religion but God knows them and some day they will face Him for judgement and their reward. What a joy to be free!

we have all been born with free will and our own rights. Only some people set their will above the rights of others. Nothing to do with religion, just human nature.
