You know what... I believe that we all use systematic ethics all the time regardless of the situation. Certain subtle differences in the situation may prompt changes in your behavior, but on some basic level, we all use a certain logic when making decisions.
Think about it like this... if you've recieved a desirable outcome to a specific situation by doing a certain action, why would you try something different when the exact same situation presents itself again? On the other hand, if the outcome was undesirable the first time, you'd be a fool to do the same thing the second time around.

I improvise. The world has outgrown traditional morals. Everything is so much more complex and the "gray area" between right and wrong practically covers the spectrum.
The one rule that I try to follow is "Treat others as you would want to be treated". No place in the spectrum for the Golden Rule. It's on its own.

As far as I can, I try to conform myself, more or less systematically, to the teachings of scripture. However, there are times when I need to let the Spirit of God direct me for specific circumstances to avoid doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.

I'm somewhere down the middle... not too far to the systematic thing and using applied common sense to try to be fair in discernment. I'm also aware that my perceptions and projections play a huge part so that gets factored in... and so on.

Everyone uses both just depends on how many times in the past you in-countered the situation. The more you faced it in the past helps you think instead of reacting on gut instinct so it depends on how much you experienced.

My morality is based on logic. I don't kill or steal because nothing gives me the right to. I don't cheat on my girlfriend because I made a commitment to her. I don't discriminate becuase logically nothing indicates that I, a white American male, am superior to any other race, gender or nationaliy. I don't lie to people because that creates mistrust which leads nowhere. And so on.
I think there is something psychologically wrong with someone who needs a book of fairy tales to teach them that it's wrong to kill or steal. Morality is logical, not magical.

An it harm none, do as thou wilt.
If only everyone followed that VERY simple ethic credo, the whole world would be a much better place.

Nothing is ever black and white. We judge situations based on past experiences and knowledge. Everything is a case by case basis.
