A good salesman will ask for the sale once he/she has met all of your objectives, found the right vehicle for you at the right price and payment and has assured you that any concerns will be taken care of (and mean it, hopefully). There are dozens of one liners such as "What Can I do or What Do I have to do to earn your business today?" but make sure that you are in control of the situation. Most salesmen are not bad, they just want to earn a paycheck like anyone else. A bit of advice: IF you are buying from a dealership for the first time, look for a younger salesperson. They are generally more interested in earning your business rather than ripping you off. They don't know all of the 'tricks of the trade' yet. Hold your ground!

"If I can get my manager to give you a good deal, will you buy this car right now? I know he's in a good mood right now and any deal he accepts won't be good later. Besides someone else already has a deposit on the car you want, but I'll sell it to you now and tell them that the car burned. Just sign this paper -- ignore the blanks, we'll fill them in later."

They don't. You present the opportunity for the salesman to "close" the deal and they're adept at recognising and capitalising upon that.
Just "go deaf" but ask relevant questions and above all buy what you want to buy.

I looked at your profile. Why do you keep asking the same questions over and over again?
Obviously you are not getting the answers you want here on Yahoo.

It depends on the salesman. They are all different and have had different training.
A common line is, "What can I do to earn your business today?"
