I can't speak for all Christians, but yes, I do understand that. To someone who doesn't study the Bible and have the witness of the Holy Spirit living in them, it can sound absurd. The Bible even teaches that the things of God seem like foolishness to the world. But it also says that when you seek Him with all your heart you WILL find Him. I don't pretend to understand every single thing in the Bible, and I think most Christians would say the same thing. But I have faith in God that He will teach me what I need to know as I continue to study. I learn new things all the time. The most important doctrine of Scripture is believing that Jesus is the only way to eternal life with God. Other things can be debated and not cost a person to miss out on eternal life in heaven, but what one chooses to do about Jesus is the most important choice they'll ever make.

I do. I understand because I used to not believe. Then the Holy Spirit opened my spiritual eyes and ears to the Truth.
Jesus said, "Go forth and make disciples of all the world." Well, how do you tell which ones have their eyes and ears opened already and which ones God will be working on.
So you are like the farmer to who throws seed in all directions. Why? For the people that are accepting it and it takes root and produces fruit.
Christianity to people without the Holy Spirit's opening of your spiritual eyes and ears is more absurd than anything you'll ever be asked to believe.
Yet the reality is that it is TRUE. Those without eyes and ears cannot comprehend it on even a baby's level. It makes no sense whatsoever.
Yet when you have a deeper understanding which can only come through the revelation from the Holy Spirit. You start to learn more and more and it really starts to make perfect sense.
Most people think of God as either this grandfather type and gives everything that you ask for OR as a some mean spirited ogre ready to strike you down the minute you sin.
In reality, he's sort of a combination of both. God's wrath for your sin is like the ogre ready to strike you down. Yet, He provided the means by which you can escape which is Jesus Christ.
Jesus become the spiritual lamb's blood that allows God wrath of eternal judgement passover you. Jesus lived a perfect life. He is sacrificed in YOUR place, so that YOUR sins are paid in full. You have your life's body of imperfect work and sin replaced with Christ's perfect life.
So instead of God seeing a sinner on Judgement day, He reads the list of your sins in your lifetime. Jesus Christ will say, "this man's name is written in my book of Life. His judgement is paid in full. He's declared innocent of all charges." You are FREE from the eternal seperation from God which is Hades.
Those that are not written in the Lamb's Book of Life, have to pay for their sin. The worm is never satisfied and the fire is never quenched. Eternal suffering for the sins of this life.
God set down the rules. You don't abide by them, you pay the consequences. Don't worry if you don't understand.
If God hasn't opened your eyes and ears, you'll never be able to comprehend.

Conversely,do non-believers understand how absurd their belief system is to those who have been there and have been enlightened? We were not born with a Christian tag stapled to our placenta. We used to live next door to you.

no more so than how absurd the lack of belief sounds to someone who is a Christian.

If they did... do you think they'd still be christians?
At least the big bang & evolution have some kind of scientific explanation where as your imaginary friends god & Jesus are only stories that people have taken way too seriously & devoted their lives to.
Someone said they'd rather live their lives believing in god & find out he doesn't exist than live his/her life without god..... I find that hard to believe. Imagine your whole life's hopes & dreams are proven wrong... I find it hard to believe you'd be happier that way. Some believe life ends when we die & that's it.... but some believe there is an afterlife. I don't think there is a heaven & hell, but i have a hard time thinking that it just ends for us when we die.

Sure. And I think sometimes we underestimate how involved and complicated it can be. While the basics are pretty simple, there is a lot of information to assimilate.
I think what people see as contradiction is specification, but I can understand why people struggle with it.

As an ex-southern baptist, I can assuredly say they do not. Nor do they care. In their opinion, they are right and you are wrong, and that's all there is to it.
There is a reason for their mentality. They are isolated from the general culture. Rent "Jesus Camp" from Block Buster and prepare to be shocked. The southern baptists are relentless in their isolationism and begin indoctrination at birth. I imagine other extremist religions are very similar.

It has been that way since the beginning....for instance, it is written...from the Book of Acts...
24At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. "You are out of your mind, Paul!" he shouted. "Your great learning is driving you insane."
25"I am not insane, most excellent Festus," Paul replied. "What I am saying is true and reasonable.
26The king is familiar with these things, and I can speak freely to him. I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner.
27King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do."
28Then Agrippa said to Paul, "Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?"
29Paul replied, "Short time or long--I pray God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains."

Do non-believers understand how absurd it seems to not believe. That is the greatest thing about my faith......I don't have to care what other people think of it.
