because the Bible says so (II Peter 2:7). We also know for a fact that Lot got drunk, had sex with his own daughters (Genesis 19:31ff), and got them both pregnant.

If I did this to my daughters, would you tell people that I was a righteous man?

David was a man after God's own heart, but still fell short and sinned. Lot wasn't perfect either.

No, you do not "KNOW for a fact". When you see the event actually taking place, then you would know for a fact. You know what you have read, and what others have rewritten.

You have to understand a change of cultures. I'm sure it was socially acceptable to do something like that back in the day. Especially in Genesis times when population was sparse.
That is why there are inconsistencies with the bible. Because it "takes place" during such a long period of time, there are changes in cultures, what people find socially acceptable, so it is written as it was. And of course those very things are condemned later on. Convenient? Hmmm....

He was called just or righteous because of his faith in God.
All of our righteousness the bible says is as filthy rags before God. When the angels came to Sodom and gave the report to Lot of Sodom's destruction by faith he believed the angels report and allowed them to take him out prior to the city's destruction. This makes him a man of faith because he believed the word of God.What makes us righteous today?
Is it paying tithes? Is it church attendance? Is it being a good moral person? all of these are good and important but what makes us righteous is the blood of Christ applied to our hearts and lives.Genesis 19:35" And they(daughters) their Father drink wine that night also and the younger rose and lay with him AND HE PERCEIVED NOT WHEN SHE LAY DOWN NOR WHEN SHE AROSE" this was not a deliberate and premeditated act of incest. His original sin here was over drinking and becoming drunk at that point when his
senses were so diminished the daughters had their way with him in order to produce children from him which they did out of unbelief. This was a terrible and if you read on you can see the consequences. However Lot was just and righteous because of his faith in God and obediance. Who is going to heaven? Ex murderers, ex drug addicts and dope dealers ex
prostitutes etc etc thank God for his precious love and mercy and for the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all sin and it is forever forgotten by God.

Certainly Lot got drunk and there was sex with his daughters. If you read the story it was the daughters who got him drunk and determined to have sex; taking advantage of his drunken stupor to conceive.

God held him from this knowledge, else he could not be called righteous. The continuation of the line, which became Moab, was necessary to prophecy.

For out of Moab comes Ruth. Out of the harlot Rahab comes Boaz. Out of the union of Boaz and Ruth comes David. Of David and Bathsheba comes Solomon and finally there arrives the Son of David, Jesus the Christ.

The conclusion you reach from the story is in error.

Lot was made drunk by his daughters. And his daughters at that time since the Destruction of Sodom and Gommorah have been made aware that their tribe will have to fulfill the promise to multiply in numbers. Having no man immediately around them to help them fulfill it, they turned to their father who was drunk. Lot submiited himself to his daughters who were already on top of him and his human instinct and was drunk at the same time are the ones that made it happen.
Incestous affairs happened at that same time when God told Abraham that his descendants will be as many as the stars in heaven. Aware of their age and the barren condition of Sarah, the clan must have misunderstood God that their family must grow among themselves. They never knew that the promise would later include the Gentiles who do not belong to their clan but will become Abraham's children by joining their faith.

Lot was good enough to be spared the destruction of Sodom but was not good enough to be counted equal to his uncle Abraham. The fact that his daughters preserved his heritage by having sons fathered by their own father, was not a blessing on Lot's part. You will note that after that incident, the Bible does not mention him again, as far as further life accomplishments.
David was as good a man as can be found yet he sinned one great sin and lost his exaltation because of it.

God uses different people in different ways. He chose Moses, who was a murderer, to lead His people out of bondage. He chose David, who was an adulterer and an murderer, to become king.
Everyone does bad things in this life, everyone.
It just goes to show you that no matter what we have done in this life, God still can use everyone of us.
And it was God that considered Lot righteous.
