You can do it. Maybe 2 out of 5 stars on degree of difficulty. There will be instructions with the lock. When you take out the old lock, observe how it fits together - that will help. Now, if you are putting a lock, like a deadbolt ,on a door that has not had one before, that is somewhat harder, and requires a few tools - a drill plus the right size spade bit, a chisel. Still very doable if you're at all handy.

That depends.

If you are installing a simple door lock, then it's not a big deal DIY.

If you are installing some higher level door locks, then you'd better find a lock smith to do for you.

You should be able to do it with no problem, assuming the measurements are right. It's pretty straight-forward. If the door and its current lock set are older, then you may need to make some adjustments, but if the present set is not too old, then any standard lockset should work.

Yes and yes. It's much cheaper to buy and install it yourself. Make sure you buy the correct type for its purpose.

absolutely. And while your at it, if you have more than one lock you can have them keyed alike for about seven dollars. (even home depot can do this for you) then you'll only need one key for all your locks......
