I can't scan film on Canon Canoscan 8600. What am I supposed to do?

For those who have Canon Canoscan, I need some help. I have a Canon Canoscan 8600. I want to scan slides but I can't figure out how. The troubleshooting says to select "film" from the dropdown menu but it isn't listed. What am I doing wrong?

Isn't there a photo/film button right on the scanner? (Middle button, right side)

Is it an 8600 OR an 8600F? If 8600 F:

Call Canon or your vendor for tech support, if you already read the User Manual.
