she has not had her kittens yet they are due on the 17 of april. this was an accident she was supposed to be spayed two days after she was mated in feb but over here it is illegal to spay any cat that might be or is pregnant until you know for sure she is not expecting. she will probably have a c section and spay at the spay time. i used to breed cats but no longer. she is only a very young cat as well.

she has been back to the vets today and has had another antibiotic injection and tomorrow starts on tablets. she has also been given science diet a/d prescription food which she just can't get enough of. she is also eating their kitten biscuits. i think she is feeling better as she was wriggling all over the place at the vets lol and thank god but she will not be able to feed her kittens because of the infection, when she has them

At least you DID take her to the vets, unlike most of the saddos on here who beg for help from Yahoo Answers like they don't even know vets exist.

She's on antibiotics, these should work to clear the mastitis up. If you don't see improvement after two days of antibiotics, or if she stops eating, consult your vet again.

You can make yourself feel better by getting her spayed once she's better and the kittens are weaned so she doesn't have to go through this again- but I think you've probably learned your lesson! :-)

Lose her kittens from the infection in her milk ducts? I dont think so. Mastitis infections are not passed through to the breast milk. They are not contangious. The kittens will posibly get a little bit of the antibiotics in the breast milk, but it should be safe. If you notice any chnages in behaviour, please call the vet immediatly.

That's a good question. i would talk to the vet and see cuz I'm not completely sure. I think as long as yer cat keeps eating and stuff the kittens will stay alive but I'm not sure. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Speak with your veterinarian. He may suggest you bottle feed the kittens to supplement their nursing. As long as the kittens nurse a little bit, she will continue to produce milk, but the supplementation will help her heal by giving her a break from nursing. Definitely speak to your vet. Poor mama cat. Please have your kitty spayed as soon as she weans her kittens. Its the best thing for her health and well-being in addition to controling the homeless pet over-popualation. Good luck.
