You are confusing the picture resolution of your screen with the capabilities of your graphics card.

In order to have 1080p output, your graphics card needs to support a resolution of 1920x1080 at 60 Hz

(As a side note, 1280x800 is HD but not 1080p)

I think this might help you a bit. Right now the only source of a 1080p picture is the Blueray DVD. So if you are not using a Blueray DVD player or the PS3(which plays Blueray DVD), then you are not watching 1080p. There is no 1080p broadcast on TV and if you plan on using your laptop make sure it has a Blueray DVD player. And those laptops cost a lot. Here is a link to one.

NO, it will never be true 1080p which stands for progressive. But there is a de-interlacer built in to the Sony Bravia 1080p tv so it will look very good.

the two or will do you nice. i might bypass DVI to HDMI and stay digital, to get slightly extra suitable high quality. yet VGA may additionally manage the alternative and could provide you a superb photograph high quality as properly. If the two the television and laptop could have VGA, then you definately ought to begin with that and notice if it relatively works for you. i could think of you have already got a VGA cable or 2 kicking around. So it does no longer fee you something. Then later in case you elect for to spend the money, get the DVI to HDMI cable or adaptor, in case you experience VGA in simple terms isn't extremely doing it for you.
