If God wanted the Bible to be absolutely perfect so it could be taken literally (completely literally) to answer any questions we could ever have, why did he have imperfect man who has freewill write it over many years?

Why was a perfect book not sent directly from God, and new translations sent accordingly?

If the Bible was written by imperfect, sin-filled man, can Christians really trust it completely?

Arthur, how do I know God said that if I'm not sure the Bible can be trusted?

Because man has to learn through his imperfections. I don't think you should take the Bible literally, it has a lot of themes and metaphors (like good vs. evil).

They were men led by the Holy Spirit, it was the Holy Spirit who was in control. Are you a Mormon don't they believe that the writings of Joseph Smith dropped out of the sky? Is that true about them? That is what I have heard. When the Holy Spirit takes over it is God who is in control, so it can be trusted. Peace.

I agree with you...II Timothy 3:16 says all scripture is given by inspiration of God...we need to remember it was written by humans, with their own ideas, customs, laws and prejudices.

Why are so many Christians afraid to admit that the Bible cannot completely be taken literally?

You make a logical argument. That is why I feel that we have a need to receive "ongoing" regular revelation from God. If he is unchangeable, and unwavering, it would be logical that he would talk to a prophet in this day and age as he did in days of yore. There is a major religion that so believes, and it is called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Prophets do lead the LDS Church and obtain inspiration and guidance from the Lord. It is the same as in Mose's day. It is a great blessing to those who so believe.

It wasn't written by man. God moved holy men of God by his spirit to write down his word and he has preserved the word that he gave.

edit:

If you have faith in salvation through Jesus Christ then you don't stop and make no more effort to grow and experience life. You continue on through doctrine, which if it is based on the truth will line up with the bible.

Sheesh, are you asking God why He does things the way He does things? Hasn't He already said that His thoughts are not your thoughts and His ways are not your ways? He's even gone as far as saying that as the heavens are above the earth so are His thoughts above your thoughts and His ways above your ways. So shut it!

It's because God inspired them and they were momentarily lifted out of their ordinary sinful bodies.
