If you are the photographer, the copyright is automatic. However the best way to protect your work is to put a studio stamp on the back of any print you sell or give out. It also provides advertising if that person needs reprints or to do new portraits. Fine Art photo prints can be signed on the front, which not only establishes your claim, but adds value for the collector.

The link is very imformative. Notice the spelling of "copyright".

By the way, the answer by Jessica has a link to a personal website having nothing to do with your question. DO NOT CLICK ON IT.
