The technology is now here. A microchip can be implanted under your skin that would allow doctors to access your medical history in the event you had an accident and arrived in the emergency room unconscious. It would also allow you to make purchases like a credit card by simply waving your right hand under a sensor. It would solve the identity theft problem because it would be hard to lose. If your kid or grandparent gets lost it would have the ability to instantly locate them anywhere on the planet. If everyone was required to have one it would practically eliminate crime because it would give the cops the ability to track everyone at once. Imagine a bunch of teenagers spraying grafitti late at night. The cops would be able to see who was in the area at exactly what time. No more Illegal Immigration. No more smuggling. Terrorists would have nowhere to hide. So, would you let Big Brother chip you and your kids and live happily ever after? The technology is now here.

Well several issues:

1. It's new technology, and it's never been proven to work with an entire population of a country. So naturally, there will be many issues with it if it even works.

2. This chip will introduce more identity theft issues than it would eliminate. If you're carrying all that information in your chip, someone would only have to shake your hand with their own chip reader and they can get sensitive information about you.

3. The chip can probably be counterfeited. This means you've just introduced a new method to help illegals sneak in. If we stop guarding our borders and diverted funds to monitor these chips we can be fooled.

4. Would this chip be enough as criminal evidence? The software will probably not be hack proof and that will be every defense lawyer's argument.

5. The ability to track people real time probably infringes on our Bill of Rights. Therefore it will not be legal.

Nothing, that I know of, made by man is fail safe and/or tamper proof.

A terrorist could likely use your electronic signature to frame you as the perpetrator of a terrorist act.

A system reliant upon electronic transfer is subject to power failures that would render the Chip useless until the system was back on line.

There is not enough medical research to validate that a chip is not harmful vis a vis radiation and/or body rejection and/or other.

A chip may be sensitive, overload, in presence of electromagnetic radiation.

The Government could, and likely would, use the chip for nefarious purpose.

No, I would not voluntarily permit a chip to be inserted nor would I permit my children to undergo said same for the above-stated reasons and other there may be.

Haven't given the matter much thought, but it is likely that the harm outweighs the benefit, if any.

As long it was voluntary, sure I would. I'm not planning on breaking any laws, so why do I care if everybody knows where I am and what I'm doing? I have thought for years that I should be able to put a chip in my children so I could find them via GPS if they went missing. They could have it removed at my expense when they turn 18 if they want, I don't see the problem. Unlike IQ over 80 chick, I don't really think I'm so important that the government is going to care where I am or what I'm doing anyway unless I'm doing something I shouldn't be doing.

You can fight the war on terror all you want but you can't win a war against a tactic.
No I would not get that. I am willing to allow some crime to happen in order to have freedom. Anyway do you think criminals will get the chip?

It's a scary thought to be watched 24/7. I kind of like the idea for kids since every parent's worse nightmare is that their child goes missing and what could happen to them. Otherwise, I want us to remain free. We could start enforcing some of our immigration laws to deal with that problem. Did you know in Houston, TX, the police will not even show up to a car accident if they know it involves a Mexican? They just act like it never happened. It's an unwritten law that they follow.

May God Bless you.

I'm Technologically Challenged. I'd probably fry the chip when it touched me.

edit: Sara, I think the Franklin quote you're looking for is this: Those who would trade freedom for safety deserve neither freedom nor safety.

I don't trust Big Brother farther than I could comfortably spit a large rat.. And RFID technology is fairly easy to hack right now. ID theft would only increase.

Never! I don't even agree in chipping animals. To me this would be like becoming a robot. Also, I am a Christian and I believe you would go to hell
