I was cooking some hamburger and drained the excess fat off into a dish. I let it solidify so as not to let it get stuck going down the sink, i can just scoop and throw away. Anyway, my cat ate about half of it, does anyone know what that will do to my cat, or will it just pass through her

I'd say the only thing you need to worry about is keeping the scooper close to the litter box. They are carnivores so meat and fat is their normal diet anyway.

If the hamburger was 100% meat, then fine. But I'm betting it wasn't and contained at least 50% of other ingredient like rusks, additives, colours, salt, sugars and other chemicals that I can't even spell never mind know what damage they cause the human body let alone a cats body.

You should never feed any human food to an animal. We have a choice what rubbish we put into our bodies but your pet relies on you to feed it with good stuff.

It solidified to show you what it will do to your veins and that's what it will do to your cats veins also. They can suffer from clogged arteries and heart diseases as well as we can. Please don't do this again.

And to the person who wrote they eat this in the wild. Please tell me where you get hamburger fat out in the wild. Are McDonald's building restruants in the jungle now?

It shouldn't cause a problem, maybe a bit of diarrhoea.

I can't believe some of the twerps on this board 'Cats are immune to almost anything they eat?' I mean what the f....? Yeah, they do just fine on anti-freeze, chocolate, onions - all the common poisons.

Oh, and "fat is good for cats, cat food is high in fat" - yes commercial cat food is high in fat, but that doesn't make it good for cats. You twerp.

Reasons why you should stay away from Yahoo Answers if you want to hear any sense!

Your cat should be fine my cat does it all the time licks the frying pan clean, has ate a whole tub of meat dripping nice lol. I have no kitchen door so if I forget to put anything edible away he eats it and has had no side effects though so dont worry your kitty will be ok

The cat will probably get diarrhea from it, but it will not have any long term bad effects. The cat must have really liked the taste to eat that much of it.

Our boxer dog drank the fat out a chip fryer (it was cold) many many years ago and it did nothing to her!! Apart from making you feel sick i think she/he will be fine. So his/her poo or wee might be different for a while until it passes through but that i think would be all. And if they have not puked yet i don't think they will !!

We'll just call that a once off special treat. Ok this one time but be sure next time when you are cooking to watch out for sneaky eyes :)

My cat enjoyed licking the ground nut oil I had in a pan for deep frying chinese dim sum!! I hasten to add this was before it was heated. Perhaps that's why she has a glossy coat!

Fat is a natural form of protein and a few hundred years ago people judged how good a meal was by how much fat it had in it (the more the better) your cat will be fine .

I don't think it'll harm her. Cats eat meat and in the wild they eat it down to the bone so just keep an eye on her just in case and if anything goes wrong call the vet.
