I have heard of some hypoallergenic dogs but i was wondering what one is the best . I need a dog that is fairly small but not minature so standard, something like that.
I've heard of a standard schnauzer that is quite hypoallergenic is that true? I would like to know your opinions.

My family bought a standard schnauzer 10 years ago because my sister is allergic to dogs. They are GREAT dogs! She's friendly, playful, loving and adorable. Standard schnauzers are classified as working dogs, NOT terriers. Mini schnauzers are terriers - the three sizes are actually different breeds, not just different sizes of the same breed. Standard schnauzers are very energetic and need room to run around and play, so I wouldn't get one if you don't have a yard.

My sister is highly allergic and has asthma, and she never had any problems with the schnauzer. The only other breeds I know of that work for people with allergies are poodles and Portuguese water dogs. Personally, I think schnauzers are the best choice and I couldn't recommend a better dog.

My husband and daughter are highly allergic to animals, and we currently have 3 standard schnauzers, and occasionally breed them. The person that said they are NOT A TERRIER, is indeed correct. They are not yappy or aggressive -- they are great family dogs, hence we own three. They are the perfect size, not too small, but still small enough to live in a small house or apartment. You won't find hair all over the house, and they are not high strung like poodles can be. In the end, it's up to you what you decide, but perhaps you should talk to some breeders, and research a few hypo-allergenic breeds before making your decision. Good Luck!!

Please note: One person's allergies may vary greatly from another person's. It is always wise to visit the dog to see if you are allergic to it before you bring it home.

Poodles are pretty hypoallergenic and they come in all sizes. Boston Terriers are pretty hypoallergenic too, but they do shed some hair (very little). I do not know about schnauzers and allergies; I do know that schnauzers are great dogs though.

There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. All dogs have skin, so all dogs have dander, to varying degrees. And all dogs shed at least a bit, unless they are completely hairless.

Dander is usually the allergen, but there might be other allergens too, some people are allergic to dog's saliva. You need to know what triggers your allergy before you know which dog to choose.

I hope you don't get a dog based on its fur or whatever.

Schnauzers are not the quietest dogs, and can be dog aggressive since they are terriers. They are not really one of the healthiest breeds. You might want to look into getting a Poodle?

My parents have a Bichon Frise. They got her from my aunt, who has 3 of her own, cuz my uncle is allergic to dogs and these ones don't bother him at all. Like other people said, they have hair, not fur, so they don't shed.

Ive heard Bichon Frise's and Labradoodles are hypo-allergenic. Basically any dog that requires a haircut, because that means they dont shed. Any kind of poodle/bichon/maltese, and they are very smart, sweet, and they act like they're your real child. However, they're yappers. So if you live in a loud neighborhood, they will bark all day.
