I think that is an unfair assumption. I have fat friends who are lazy and fat friends who aren't, and skinny friends who are lazy and skinny friends who aren't. A perfect example in my life is my mother. After she had me, God-bless her, she lost her small frame completely. She is going into her third decade of being 'overweight' but eats healthy food, does yoga three times a week, and is in great general health. The pregnancy and hormones produced from having me just changed her body and the way it works. Her best friend is the laziest slob I have ever met and is underweight and always has been (she eats a lot too, trust me). Everyone's body is unique and responds differently, but excersize is a good thing as long as you are physically able to do it (ie-didn't just have open heart surgery or some other extreme example). Your friend may just be insecure or not very open minded, that's common in this culture.

Well, I think your friend was just expressing an opinion. To be fair, most overweight people do get winded by walking for short distances, and most of them don't exercise at all, so that can definitely be perceived as lazy in our culture. Overweight people who do actually work out all the time and go on walks, etc. and are just overweight because of genetics or something are the exception, not the rule. Generally speaking, an active lifestyle equals a healthy lifestyle, which promotes weight maintenance. Besides, it does take a certain amount of non-laziness to maintain a healthy weight. I get up at 6 every morning so I can work out and take my dog on a long walk before work, because I want to stay at a good weight. Nothing lazy about that!

I would strongly have to disagree with your friend. I am somewhat heavyset, however, that doesn't mean I'm lazy. I've tried extreme dieting, exercising regularly, almost every possible way to lose weight. When I found I wasn't able to barely shed a pound with eating right, working out, etc. I decided to have a visit with the doctor to find out what was preventing me from losing weight. After several months of testing and, surprising, an ultrasound.
My doctor and the specialists that were helping me, helped me to discover I have an hypothyroid (underactive thyroid) and polycystic ovarian syndrome. The hypothyroid wasn't allowing me to produce the average amount of the usual thyroid hormone that helps control one's metabolism. When I was about 12, I had begun to gain weight all of a sudden and they had suspected I had had an underactive thyroid, but not as much was known about it then, nine years ago, as there is now. It has many other symptoms, but the weight gain and difficulty in losing the weight are the main symptoms that appear the most frequently.
As for the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), it also added to my weight gain. It has been extremely difficult for me when I had been in school because of things people would say and think, like what your friend thinks when he sees someone who is overweight. Your friend sounds like he's a bit stereotypical before he looks at what the possibilities of what may be going on in anothers life.
I saw your question on here and knew that I needed to rule that stereotype out since I've lived one of the hardest of lives due to teasing, abuse, harrassment, and bullying. I hope I have answered your question as well as lightened your mind, as well as your friend's, up a bit on some of those 'fat' people. Sure, there may be some who are lazy...but not all of them are. Thanks.

I was fat, but what actually changed me was what I ate, and not exercise. I did regular exercises every day, at a gym, but I ate whatever I wanted. Then there is those people who have hormone problems, or even mental problems, as studies show that people taking anti depressants make them bloated, and look fat. Hope this helps your friend look at fat people in a different way. Also, when people used to call me that, it really hurt. So, ask your friend what he feels when someone points at a sore point of his? It hurts, and its not a very good experience either.

I think that your friend just likes to go along with stereotypes. Doesn't require a lot of brain power to realize that some people have underlying medical conditions that cause them to be over weight. It is not always over eating and not exercising that leads to obesity. Also...I know plenty of overweight people who are very active and have a strong work ethic. I definitely don't think they could be considered lazy by anyone's standard.
So no I don't agree.

I don't know. I guess it depends how fat. People don't get that big unless they are lazy. Depends on the definition of lazy too.

I think that when you see big people, their personality appears bigger than usual. if that person has a little bit of a slob's look and is fat, it will show

Really...I know several people who are overweight because their thyroid had been destroyed. Does that make them lazy?
