Now what I'd like to know is...what's the big deal? Do people really think that Jesus was NOT "anatomically correct"? Or is it the omission of the loincloth (which may or may not have actually been present at the crucifixion)? What is the problem?

Forget baseball, America's new favorite hobby is being offended and complaining about things. In the scheme of things, whether chocolate Jesus shows his chocolate shmeckie is a tempest in a teapot. Nude or clothed, the sculpture is the vision of the artist and no one is forced to look at it.

It's genius and it's cracking me up. What a somber, sad, mirthless religion that is. What if somebody made a chocolate Buddha statue? I'm thinking the point is the statue, not the chocolate - the chocolate is a seasonal touch - it's still just a statue that quite honestly will start to blush in a few months unless it's kept at the proper temperature. So maybe they're upset by the impermanence? It really can't be the schlong, can it?

Oh, I know...they're afraid that if it's displayed some kid's going to come take a huge bite out of a toe or something. That *would* probably be disrespectful but parents can control kids and all they have to do is hang it high enough that kids can't reach it.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that was made out of lack of respect. Whoever took the time to do that must have had respect and believed that Jesus didn't had a loincloth when put on the cross. They might have thought it would be disrespect to not be anatomically correct and treat a penis as something to be ashamed of, including on the son of God.

Then again, seems like many Christians choose to become offended over Jesus being shown in almost any way they don't believe him to be.

I don't see the problem. There are already many statues of Jesus everywhere. In Christianity, it's ok to have pictures and statues of Jesus. The only difference is that this statue is made of chocolate and not gold or whatever.
I think it's because Jesus is nude. I'm sure if he had a loincloth then many Christians would be thrilled to see it.
I'm willing to bet that the artist didn't mean any mockery. He uses food as his medium so this is his way of seeing Jesus.

Christians problem with it is they think it is disrespectful. They can't control everybodies behavior and beliefs and that bothers them.
I personally think it is a great statement on modern Easter. I mean, it is suppose to be about Christ, but, since the Christians wanted to market their religion to everybody, they let pagan practices infiltrate their holiday. Now we sell chocolate Easter bunnies. So how apropos that we have a huge chocolate Jesus. Even that is being marketed. Just like the bunnies, just like Christianity was, and so, now it shall be too.
However, when all is said and done, I wish it had been dark chocolate, then I'd break the winnie off and eat it. Plus, chocolate balls have been sold for years.

I'm an atheist and have been for most of my life.

I find this statue disrespectful and in poor taste. It has nothing to do with nudity or chocolate and I don't know that I can accurately convey why I feel this way. It has something to do with it being "impermanent." Because it can melt, be eaten, or destroyed, it seems to diminish the significance of Jesus' life.

For some reason that bothers me.

the problem is SOME people respect jesus very much.. and therefore to make a chocolate mold out of him (like some chocolate rabbit) shows lack of respect.

just because you or the next person has no respect for another human being doesnt mean others dont....
