Because the eyes of their heart are too blind and hardened to see, hear and feel it.
And fear which stems from the root of sefishness, that they may have to give up something -- Even if it's a belief in something that could be higher than even themself.

This is BS question. I cannot explain many things, it does not mean I do not trust those things. I, for example, cannot explain gravity, but I trust it 100%.

Simple answer: trust in adults comes as a result of logical deduction and some basic instinct.

If you dont understand it, your instincts are to avoid it.

But if youve got enough IQ to fight that off, you dont have to live solely on your instincts.

At some point in their lives someone or something (perhaps an ideology) failed them.

If you don't have people in your life who are trustworthy, you never learn to internalize trust in yourself, and I guess that could make it very difficult to trust in God or in anything which cannot be seen or "proven."

I think it is because humans like things very black and white. We like to are very solid proof of things. That's why there is still question about evolution, because there is not black and white proof , just fuzzy proof. That's why so many religions are black and white, either you're "with us or you're with the terrorists" , to quote our monkey in chief.
