You have noticed!
Not a cult actually but as you will have noticed on here the fundamentalists, born again, zealots and extremists that have taken over Christianity are turning Christianity from a religion to an ideology.
Perhaps they should just check the dictionary definitions and see what damage they are doing for the cause they think they are promoting.
Nearly all the Christians on here are self serving egotists anyway. Very few decent Christians bother to argue with them which is a pity.

AGREE ! After all , if one stops to think about it , WHERE does the Devil live ? He lives in ink ; in the Bible . When one needs to " HAVE FAITH ", that there IS a Devil , " something is terribly wrong ". Has anyone ever seen the Devil ? Was there thousands of witnesses to a Devils PHYSICAL existence?
Christianity as a whole accepts this ideal that an unforeseen Father of Evil exist. Christians MUST believe that something other than themselves makes Them do wrong or bad things. Not only does it alleviate Them from blame , but it allows them to continue in their ways. The idea of a Devil diverts the attention elsewhere and absolves blame . Any group who honors, worships and acknowledges the existence of something that couldn't possibly exist , is a CULT. Undoubtedly !!!
What does Benny Hinn and the Jimmy Swaggarts of the World use , as Their instruments of deception? The Devil ; who lives where ? The BIBLE ! They actually use the Devil for 'THEIR BENEFIT ' .
CHILLING !!!
The Book of Genesis is probably the cause , and , the division of , the WORLD today .
However , Paradoxically speaking , Jesus is obviously the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE . What a mess .

So yes, could be. I do not have blind faith, I have had the same questions or protests against christianity as you or other atheists. After research I am a believer. I also have a science degree and have studied evolution and the Design theory.

I am not a pentecostal but am a Christian. I agree that there are abuses of Christianity. However seeing the Bible as authoritative is not giving up the will to think for ourselves, however there are many other characteristics of cults that don't apply to most Christian groups.

We all have the ability to think for ourselves, the ones you say that appear to be "brain washed" are those that feel stronger ties to God. The more they feel Him in their lives, the more by the book they live. To call them incapable of thought is an insult pure and simple, MOST of them were once like you, saying the same things before they actually took a good hard look at it and believed. I was that way.
Calling someone an idiot (if you cant think, you're stupid, aka idiot) because they dont agree with you is pathetic. All it shows is that you have a basic hate for anyone who is different then you are. I would suggest you take a long hard look at what the bible REALLY teaches, it can, and will, change your life.

I would say that you have a very narrow view of Christianity as a whole. Actually it's a person who is trusting Christ for their salvation. As far as their personal beliefs that leave a wide area to except evolution, or Old earth. It does require that a person turns their life around and follow Jesus. I guess believing in Peace, Love, Patience... and a myriad of other virtues is being brainwashed... NOT Jim

God is the only one I answer to.
In a true cult, the human leader claims to be God. And everyone must obey that person.
God and his Word are where I find my answers and no PERSON controls me.
It is true that some denominations make laws or doctrons based on their interpretation of the Bible. They are only people. If you want to know what God says, pray and read the Bible. There you will find your answer.

"A cult is a group that demands to control the thoughts of it's followers, right?"
Wrong. But Christianity is certainly a cult by scholastic definition of the term.

Parts of any religion can fit into the "Cult" catagory. I am the last person to defend Christianity but you can't label an entire group with one label. In each religion you will find cult like followings and totally free groups. It is human nature in many ways to be "THE ONE" who knows it all. So my answer to your question is Yes and No.

I think that you should do some more research and get a few more correct facts before you try to make such a rediculous claim. If Christianity is a cult than a child who listens to his/her parents must also be in a family cult. That is all good Christians are doing; listening and obeying the earthly and heavenly parent.
