How would the world have changed if was the primary one for most of history? If the Romans somehow had pushed the Christians farther underground and they were never accepted? Or if another ancient religion became number one? A lot of the ancient religions weren't peaceful, so I think we can rule out that there would be no more wars.

Only serious and well-thought out answers, please. Think about the culture of the religion you're putting in the number one spot. In order for any religion to move enmass over the globe, force is needed. So, how would the world have changed?

I'm asking for a theory because I want people to really think. Some have it in their minds that all our problems are from Christianity, but if they really think, they'll realize that it could be the same no matter what religion was "number one".

That really is a scary question.

I was watching a documentary just a few weeks ago about ancient cults. Many practiced human and especially infant sacrifices.

Archeologists had uncovered a massive grave of burned infants.

Apparently they had this huge metal statue of their "god" and it was basically a large skillet. They had a fire going underneath. They'd put the babies into the statue's lap and cook them.

These were not babies stolen from weaker nations. These were their own babies.

All I could do was cry.

Then I realized we aren't that different now while people use abortion as a form of birth control.

Christianity thrives under persecution...driving it further underground would have only made it stronger. The only way to weaken Christianity is to make it popular with the masses and an acceptable thing to do so there is no sacrifice in it.

You are asking for a theory that can never become fact. It's like asking a fundamentalist to believe in evolution.
