People lie for a variety of different reasons. But, I think it is primarily because they do not love themselves, they do not have pride in themselves and they do not trust that they deserve a great person so they hide things about themselves to ensure that they get the great person they think they deserve. At the end of the day it is left up to you to decide if you want to be in a relationship with someone who started their relationship under false pretenses.
I met a wonderful man online that I am crazy about! He did not mis represent himself to me and he actually said I looked a lot better in person than in my photos. I have also had many friends that have met and married people they dated online. Personally, I do not think a person who tries to hide things is ready for a relationship.

I've always wondered about that as well. If the pic gets positive attention, what does that mean if the person with the profile doesn't look anything like that? Do they really think anyone is going to overlook that kind of deceit. The whole point of those sites (or a large one anyway) is to eventually meet offline...why put up a photo when you know you can't pull off an offline meeting without looking like a liar? Not a very good way to start off a potential relationship... "Hi, I'm "X"...I know I don't look anything like my photo but I'm a really great person...honest" *rolls eyes* Yeah...right.
Some people just don't use their head for anything other than growing hair...

Hi. It does seem pointless, but after having naively gone on a few dates with a couple of fake pic posters, here is my construal. Some folks really do think they look as young as they did 10 years earlier, confidently putting these pics up even though they don't look nearly as cute or as thin...Some take pics at great angles, looking nothing like what they posted, in order to get some online attention, it seems. Anyhow, I stopped with online dating after these let downs...

People do that because they try to impress and want people to like em. So yeah and that means they dont want anything serious so why tell the truth from the begining.

people like to hide...they are ashamed of themselves and hide behind a fake persona to make friends, or get dates.
it's a shame so many people are fake...
just make it a point to be real, people will like you a lot more.

cause theyre dumb and think they have to impress someone and cant be comfortable with their own looks. I always know when its a fake too. Its obvious and they will deny it. Just stay away from them.

because they are cowards hiding behind their computers. if they sent you a real picture of themself before you actually met them then ok, but still a little chicken on their part.
